TAPE – 785

(Dialing, phone ringing 2x)

CLINIC: (Unclear) office. May I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: How far along; do you know?

CALLER: Well, not really. I just haven’t my period since January 3rd.

CLINIC: Okay. It would be 175.

CALLER: I’m just kind of worried because I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is that old enough to take care of it, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. You’d have to come in and get a waiver through the courts if you want to come in without your parents. You have to come in for some paperwork, and we’ll tell you how you can do it without your parents.

CALLER: All right. How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: Nothing.

CALLER: Oh, okay. The thing is, me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and we decided we don’t want anyone to know about us. But he said he would pay for everything in cash. Would he have to sign anything or fill out any forms if he was paying?

CLINIC: No, he doesn’t.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Just stop in and get — tell them that you want papers for a bypass. And they’ll give you all the paperwork and tell you what you need to do.

CALLER: Okay. Would you guys do a pregnancy test beforehand just to make sure I was pregnant?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Okay. Because I haven’t had one of those yet.

CLINIC: That will be $10.

CALLER: Okay. Well, when do you normally do those?

CLINIC: You’ve missed very long enough. You can come in and have it done.

CALLER: What are your hours?

CLINIC: 9 to 4:30 during the week, the weekdays, and 8 to 11:30 Saturday morning.

CALLER: Do I need an appointment or anything?

CLINIC: No. It’s just walk in.

CALLER: Could I come in on Saturday then?

CLINIC: You can, but it’s our busiest day. You may be waiting a while. It’s our busiest day. We don’t have patients in the afternoon however. During the afternoon from like 2 and 4:30, there’s no one here. It’s up to you. You’re welcome to come in on Saturday, but we’re very busy.

CALLER: Well, it’s just my boyfriend works during the week, and that would be the only time I could get there. But if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there too?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: You have to have a pap smear done, and it would be $90.

CALLER: But would anybody have to know if I was on birth control?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: Oh, all right. So you sure nobody would have to know about me and my boyfriend?

CLINIC: No, uh-uh. Judicial bypass? No.

CALLER: And you’re sure the judge would say it’s all right?

CLINIC: That I can’t guarantee. That’s up to him.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: If I had any other questions, could I call and talk to you? What was your name?

CLINIC: This is Jenai (ph), but I won’t be here this afternoon. Anyone who answers the phone can help you with that.

CALLER: Okay. All right. Thanks.

CLINIC: All right. You’re welcome.

CALLER: Bye.

CLINIC: Bye.
