CALLER: Portage Planned Parenthood. May I help you?

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t. They do that at the Maryville Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you have that phone number?

CLINIC: 769-3500.

CALLER: My friend told me that since I’ll be 14 in March that they would have to have my parents sign some stuff. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of that?

CLINIC: No, you have to have parental consent.

CALLER: Oh. Is there any way not to tell my parents? Because they can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Well, then you’re going to have to go out of state.

CALLER: Like which state?

CLINIC: Chicago. Chicago is not requiring parental consent at this time.

CALLER: Do you know how long that would take?

CLINIC: No, I sure don’t. You have to call the clinic in Chicago and talk to them about it.

CALLER: Okay. My last period was like the 14th of December —

CLINIC: Can you hold please?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: I’m sorry. Go ahead.

CALLER: My last period was like the 14th of December. Do you know if I could come in there to make sure I was pregnant?

CLINIC: Well, we could do a pregnancy test which is $5.

CALLER: Well, would you guys have to tell anybody that I was getting a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: No, everything here would be confidential.

CALLER: Would it be all right if my boyfriend brings me? Because I don’t know how else I would get there?

CLINIC: Yeah, that’s fine. We do pregnancy testing up until 2:30 and then from 4 to 6 this evening.

CALLER: But you’re sure nobody has to know that I’m there?

CLINIC: We’re strictly confidential for that, yes.

CALLER: If I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys have birth control there?

CLINIC: Yeah, we do.

CALLER: Would you have to tell anybody that I was on birth control at all?

CLINIC: No. Everything is confidential here.

CALLER: Okay. I don’t drive. Is it all right if my boyfriend comes and picks up the birth control?

CLINIC: Well, you’d have to go through an exam to do that. And then you can pick up supplies when you come in for your exam.

CALLER: Could I call you right back and talk to my boyfriend and see? What was your name?

CLINIC: This is Pat.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: All right. Bye.
