CALLER: Okay. Do you know if I have to be a certain age to have an abortion or anything?

CLINIC: No, you don’t.

CALLER: Okay. I’ll be 14 in March. And that’s all right?

CLINIC: There’s no age. Of course, we encourage you to tell your parents. But there’s no — we don’t notify them, and there is no age restriction.

CALLER: Do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes. They will discuss birth control with you at the time of the termination.

CALLER: Like if I wasn’t pregnant or whatever, do they still do birth control?

CLINIC: Okay. Did you miss a period?

CALLER: Like, yeah. My last period was the first week of December.

CLINIC: And how long have been getting periods?

CALLER: Maybe for a couple years now.

CLINIC: And you’ve been having unprotected sex.

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: So you’re probably pregnant. You haven’t done a pregnancy test?

CALLER: Well, I did one over the weekend, and it said it was positive, but I wasn’t sure if I did it right.

CLINIC: Okay. So then you need to make the appointment at either White Plains or New Rochelle. They’re going to do a sonogram. They’ll tell you exactly how pregnant you are. And at the time of the termination, they will discuss birth control with you. You can start birth control at the time of the termination.

CALLER: And they wouldn’t tell my parents or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: They wouldn’t have to tell anyone?

CLINIC: No. And you know that being pregnant is not the worst thing. If you’re not using condoms, you can get incurable sexually transmitted diseases.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Do you know that?

CALLER: Well, kind of.

CLINIC: Kind of? So it’s a good idea for you not to have unprotected sex.

CALLER: Okay. Is it all right if I talk to my boyfriend and call you back?

CLINIC: Sure.
