CLINIC: Planned Parenthood and the Rape Crisis Service. This is Sally. Can I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: No. What you do here is you have to make an appointment for our pregnancy test, and then go talk to a nurse about your options.

CALLER: Oh, okay. My friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can get anything done. Is that true?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: No?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: My parents can’t find out because my boyfriend’s 22. And we’re planning on getting married. But my parents think he’s too old for me, and they just can’t find out or anything.

CLINIC: Okay. Did you want to come in for a pregnancy test?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: What’s your last name? Are you a patient with us?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: What’s your last name?

CALLER: It’s Smith.

CLINIC: S-m-i-t-h. And first?

CALLER: Christine.

CLINIC: And your date of birth?

CALLER: It’s March 19, 1988.

CLINIC: March 19, 1988?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Can you come in tomorrow?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend to see.

CLINIC: Oh. Why don’t you do that then, and then give us a call back. But we’re closing at 5.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Say you guys did the pregnancy test, and it was negative, do you do birth control there?

CLINIC: We do. You might end up having to reschedule, make an appointment for that, because all you’re getting is a pregnancy test done right now.

CALLER: Would you guys have to tell anybody about the birth control or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: No?

CLINIC: No. As long as you don’t use insurance, anything like that where your parents can tell or know then — you just have to pay out of pocket.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend said he would pay. Do you guys have to tell where the money comes from?

CLINIC: Tell who where the money comes from?

CALLER: I don’t know. Like anybody.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: No. It’s all confidential.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: All right.

CALLER: If he has questions after I talk to him, is it all right if I call you back and talk to you?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: Yeah? What was your name?

CLINIC: Sally.

CALLER: Sally?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: All right. Okay.
