CLINIC: Thank you for calling Planned Parenthood. (Desiree?). Can I help you?
CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?
CLINIC: No, ma’am, we don’t.
CALLER: Do you know of anybody that does?
CLINIC: We have a booklet that has a list of, little booklet of places that you can call to, but you need to come in and get it in here.
CALLER: Okay. Well do you know like — I’m just really worried about all this because like I haven’t had my period since like December 21st, and I don’t know what to do because like — well my friend told me — like I’m going to be 14 in March, and she said that they would have to tell my parents that I was getting an abortion. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it and they wouldn’t have to tell anybody about anything?
CLINIC: How old are you?
CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.
CLINIC: So you’re 13. Far as you doing anything right now, the abortion, you need to let your parents know.
CALLER: But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it?
CLINIC: No, because the patient would be you.
CALLER: So they would have to tell my parents?
CLINIC: Yeah.
CALLER: Well, is there any way not to tell my parents, because if they found out I don’t know what they would do.
CLINIC: Um-um.
CALLER: I mean, they would, they would be furious.
CLINIC: You would need to probably call to other places that does that. And you can ask them, see maybe if they go by confidentiality or what.
CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, could I come in there for a pregnancy test though?
CLINIC: Even if you do come in for a pregnancy test, do we need to let your parents know. It would be best if you just call there where they do that. Come and get a booklet where different places you can call to and probably see what they do.
CALLER: Oh.
CLINIC: And when is your birthday?
CALLER: March 19, 1988.
CLINIC: Yeah. Call there. See what — come and get by and get a booklet and you can call there, see what they tell you. But as far as coming here, they will let your parents know.
CALLER: Oh. Well, if I wasn’t pregnant could I come in there and get birth control and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?
CLINIC: It would be better after your birthday.
CALLER: Oh, so like after I’m 14 I could get birth control?
CLINIC: Yeah.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Because 13 we do. 14 we don’t.
CALLER: Oh, okay. All right.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Well, if like after I’m 14 and I came in for a birth control, would my boyfriend be able to pick it up? Because I still wouldn’t be able to drive to come get them.
CLINIC: He can come with you, but you need to be here.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: All right. Okay.
CALLER: Thanks.
CLINIC: Um. Bye.
