CLINIC: Thank you for calling Planned Parenthood. How can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Not at this clinic, but our Midland Planned Parenthood does.

CALLER: Oh. Well, do you know if — you know that number?

CLINIC: I sure do. It is 570-5184.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know — like I’m just really worried because my friend told me — well, I’m going to be 14 in March, and she said that they would have to tell my parents, but my boyfriend’s 22. Could they just have him sign whatever, and they wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. And it is parental consent. I mean, not parental consent. It’s just parental notification. But they do have to notify a legal guardian.

CALLER: Oh. Well, is there any way not to tell my parents, because well, it’s just, they can’t find out at all. I mean, if they — it’s just, they hate my boyfriend because — I mean, he’s a great guy. They just hate him because they think he’s too old for me. So they can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Well, you can go through something called the Judicial Bypass and go before a judge, and you know, and try to — you know, if you explain your case and they think, okay, there’s a good reason for her parents not to know, then it can happen that way. We’ve got some information here on that if you want to come in and pick it up and go that way.

CALLER: Well, do they ever say no?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: They do. Yeah.

CALLER: Oh. Well, what would I do if they said no?

CLINIC: Then they’d have to notify your parents.

CALLER: Oh. All right. Well, could I come in there for like a pregnancy test though?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: Well, it’s just — I’m just scared because I haven’t had my period since like December 21st, and I don’t know what to do.

CLINIC: Okay. Well, go ahead and come in and take a pregnancy test. You can come in this afternoon from like 1 to 4, and then we’ll do a pregnancy test and we can give you some information.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know like the only way I’d be able to get there is if my boyfriend is there with me. Would that be all right?

CLINIC: Yeah. That’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just we were talking about all this, and we didn’t want anyone to know about us. But would you have to ask him any questions or anything?

CLINIC: No. Uh-uh.

CALLER: All right. Well, if I came in for a pregnancy test would you have to tell anybody that I was there for that?

CLINIC: No. Everything is confidential.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do you know — like if the pregnancy test came out that I wasn’t pregnant would I be able to get birth control?

CLINIC: We could do a physical. We wouldn’t be able to do one today, but we could set you up an appointment for a physical, and we could get you started on birth control.

CALLER: Well, how soon could you like do that?

CLINIC: Well, we don’t have our schedule yet for March, but it would be sometime in March, probably within the next week or two.

CALLER: All right. Well, if I was on birth control would you have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. Uh-uh.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just, we don’t want to have to go through all this again. So.

CLINIC: Right. I understand.

CALLER: But do you know, like since I can’t drive yet, would my boyfriend be able to pick up the pills?

CLINIC: No. It would have to be you.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Okay. Well, let me talk to my boyfriend real quick. Can I call you back? What was your name?

CLINIC: Tanya.

CALLER: All right. Okay. Thanks.

CLINIC: Um-hum. Bye.

CALLER: Bye.
