TAPE – 142

(dialing sound) (ringing 1X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. Can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we do not.

CALLER: Do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: Where are you from?

CALLER: I’m in Coopersberg (sp).

CLINIC: Okay. I can give you a phone number in Allentown.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: It’s 877-342-5292.

CALLER: Do you know — like my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: The state law is if you’re under 18 you need parental consent.

CALLER: Oh. Is there any way around that? Like —

CLINIC: You can go —

CALLER: Because my parents can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Well, you can go before a judge and have judicial consent. That’s the only way.

CALLER: Okay. Do I have to get a lawyer for that?

CLINIC: I honestly wouldn’t know. You would have to contact the abortion provider, and they can give you more information.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, like — the only thing is, the reason why my parents can’t find out is because like my boyfriend’s 22, and we’re going to get married, but like my parents hate him because they think he’s too old for me. So that’s why they can’t find out.

CLINIC: Okay. Well, state law is state law, and there’s really no way around it other than, you know, judicial bypass.

CALLER: Well, I’m going to be 14. Is there anything — like what can I do?

CLINIC: You would just have to call the abortion provider. That’s all you can really do.

CALLER: Oh. Would they tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. Everything’s confidential.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, if like I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: And would you have to tell my parents about that?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: So, all right. So like, is it all right if he brings me?

CLINIC: Well —

CALLER: Because I wouldn’t have any other way to get there.

CLINIC: Well, first of all, you would have to establish whether or not you’re pregnant or not, and have you missed a period?

CALLER: Well, my last period was like the first week in December.

CLINIC: Okay. I would definitely give that phone number I gave you a call.

CALLER: Okay. Do you guys not do pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do, but however if you’re leaning more towards — if you happen to be pregnant, then you would want to probably stick with the same provider.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, my friend just told me to go to you guys, so that’s why. But.

CLINIC: If you want to do the test here, that’s fine. We’re just going to refer you to somebody else if you are or are not pregnant. I mean, if you are pregnant.

CALLER: Oh. But you guys could tell me if I was pregnant?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Okay. And is it all right — like you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, if I had more questions could I call you back and ask you?

CLINIC: Yeah, that’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Jamie.

CALLER: Okay. All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.
