CLINIC: (Male voice) Planned Parenthood. How may I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Oh, yeah. Did you hang up?

CALLER: Well, my friend’s mom came in, and I couldn’t stay on the phone.

CLINIC: Okay. Yes, we do. We do them up to 12 weeks.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how do you know how many weeks you are?

CLINIC: I’m going to ask you right now. When was the first day of your last normal menstrual period?

CALLER: January 3rd.

CLINIC: You are approximately nine to ten weeks right now.

CALLER: Okay. How much would it be then?

CLINIC: The price?

CALLER: Right.

CLINIC: It would be $350.

CALLER: Okay. The thing is, I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, we can’t do that. If you’re 14 years old, we have to have parental consent.

CALLER: Is there any way not to have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: Excuse me?

CALLER: Is there any way not to have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: There isn’t. That’s the law. We can’t do that.

CALLER: So I’d have to tell my parents then?

CLINIC: You have to tell your parents, yeah, because that’s already the law. Otherwise, we would get in trouble.

CALLER: Is there anyplace else I could go where my parents wouldn’t have to find out?

CLINIC: Unfortunately, not here in Oregon. I’m not really sure about Washington.

CALLER: Oh. Okay.

CLINIC: You can call Washington Planned Parenthood, but you have to travel there though.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend said he would drive. What’s the number for that?

CLINIC: Actually, they’re all (unclear). Our affiliates are all 14. I can give you the numbers.

CALLER: Well, I’ll be 14 on the 19th.

CLINIC: I know, but you’re 13 right now.

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Either way, you still have to tell — you’re going to be 14. You still have a whole year. In other words, you have to be 15.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: (Unclear). Hold on a second. Let me look at some other numbers, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

(Pause)

CLINIC: Are you still there?

CALLER: I’m here.

CLINIC: Okay. I’ll be with you in just a second, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

(Long pause)

CLINIC: Are you still there? I’ll be with you just a second, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. How can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was talking to some other person and got hung up on.

CLINIC: Hold on.

(Long pause)

CLINIC: (Male voice) Are you still there?

CALLER: I’m here.

CLINIC: Here’s the number, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: I have to go find it.

(Short pause)

CLINIC: Okay, here it is. It’s going to be in Vancouver, Washington, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: 360-694-1188. And you don’t need to have parental consent.

CALLER: Could I come in there for a pregnancy test, so that I would know for sure?

CLINIC: Yeah. You can come in for a pregnancy test.

CALLER: But would anybody have to know?

CLINIC: No. Everything is confidential. But today we do close at 3. So if you want to come, you have to come ASAP.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Are you open tomorrow though?

CLINIC: No, we’re not open tomorrow. We’re open Mondays from 12 to 8.

CALLER: Okay. If it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: Definitely.

CALLER: Would you have to tell anybody if I was on birth control?

CLINIC: Everything is confidential. Well, if I had any other questions, could I call and talk to you? What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Rapheal (ph). You can talk to anybody. Everybody here will be able to give you that information. Okay?

CALLER: All right. Thanks.

CLINIC: Okay. Bye.
