CLINIC: Good morning, Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we do not.

CALLER: Do you know of anybody that does?

CLINIC: Let me give you a couple numbers. I’m not suppose to, but what the heck. There’s nobody else here. Don’t tell anybody I gave them to you. Are you ready?

CALLER: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Well, could I ask you a quick question?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: I’m just really scared because my friend —

CLINIC: You know what? Hold on one second, and I’ll talk to you, okay?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Thank you so much for holding. You have an appointment on the 26th that you need to change, right?

CALLER: I was the last person you were talking to.

CLINIC: Oh God, I’m sorry.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay. Go ahead. You wanted to ask me a question?

CALLER: Yeah. I was just wondering — my friend told me that since I’ll be 14 in March that they would have to tell my parents I’m getting an abortion. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it, and they wouldn’t have to say anything?

CLINIC: Nope, nope.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Yep. In Ohio there’s a parental notification law. So they would notify your parents. How old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Ah boy. Call the first one I gave you and tell them what your problem is. They may be able to help you through that some way, but you need to call and tell them that, okay?

CALLER: All right. I wasn’t really sure if I’m pregnant. I’m just really scared because my last period was December 14th, and I’m usually pretty regular.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Could I come in there for a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: I don’t have anything until Tuesday. The only time I could see you is Tuesday at 9:15.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: What’s your first name?

CALLER: It’s Christine.

CLINIC: When you wake up Tuesday you need to catch a few drops of your first morning urine and bring that with you. And it cost $9.

CALLER: Okay. I’d really feel better if my boyfriend was there. Is that all right?

CLINIC: Well, he can come with you if you want.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: All right?

CALLER: Well, if the pregnancy test came out that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys have birth control there?

CLINIC: We do but not on that day. You’d have to make another appointment to come back.

CALLER: Okay. But does anybody have to know if I was on birth control?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Can I call you back after I talk to my boyfriend?

CLINIC: Yeah, sure.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Peggy.

CALLER: All right. Thank you.

CLINIC: All right. Um-hmm. Bye.

CALLER: Bye.
