(dialing sounds) (ringing 3X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. This is Judy.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: No, we do not.

CALLER: Do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: Abortion clinics?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Yeah. Look in your phone book under “abortion.”

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, do you guys do like pregnancy tests there? It’s just my friend told me to call you, so.

CLINIC: We do pregnancy testing. If you want a pregnancy test they’re $8 or a medical card.

CALLER: Okay. Do you have to be a specific age for that?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Because like I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Is that all right?

CLINIC: Are you having unprotected sex?

CALLER: Well, I don’t have any birth control, but, yeah.

CLINIC: So you’re having unprotected sex.

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Yeah. I can do a pregnancy test. I’m running a clinic right now. If you come today there might be a wait. If you come Thursday morning or Friday afternoon we don’t have a clinic then. Then you can get in and out real quick.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: But they’re $8. You don’t need to bring urine. We’ll get it when you get here.

CALLER: Okay. Well, my friend said that you guys have to tell my parents.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: But is it okay if like my boyfriend —

CLINIC: I’m not going to tell your parents if you come in and get a pregnancy test.

CALLER: Okay. Is it okay if my boyfriend brings me and everything?

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: Okay. Well, it’s just my parents can’t find out at all because like they hate my boyfriend.

CLINIC: I’m not going to tell your parents if you walk in and got a test.

CALLER: They just think he’s too old.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: I promise.

CALLER: Okay. Well, if like I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control?

CLINIC: Yes. If you’re not pregnant we can set you up with an appointment at that time to come back and get an exam. If everything’s okay then we can —

CALLER: But you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I was on birth control?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay. So like is there like any papers to sign or anything?

CLINIC: When you come in for your pregnancy test they’ll give you a couple papers, yeah, and just let them know that your parents doesn’t know you’re there.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So we’ll put you down as a julie (sp) patient.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, do you guys need — like my friend said that you guys have to know that my boyfriend’s 22. Is that something you guys need to know or —

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’m going to be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Um. You know, I’d probably have you come in Thursday afternoon and have the manager do your test.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? And we’ll just go from there.

CALLER: Well do you guys have to know anything about my boyfriend or —

CLINIC: Not unless you want to tell me about him. Is he beating on you? Is he hurting you? Is he forcing you to have sex?

CALLER: No. We’re in love. We’re going to get married.

CLINIC: Well, at 22 usually they don’t, you know, hang out with 14-year-olds.

CALLER: I don’t understand. Like I don’t know. We’re in love. We’ve been going out for like almost a year now.

CLINIC: There’s a reason that your parents doesn’t (sic) like him and it’s because of his age. They don’t him to take advantage of you.

CALLER: But we’re in love.

CLINIC: Well, you know, I’m not a counselor. I’m not to debate whether you’re in love or whether you’re not in love. You think you might be pregnant. I can get you in. We can do a pregnancy test, okay?

CALLER: Okay. But if he brings me do you guys have to say anything about him?

CLINIC: You know what? I’m here to see you.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So do you want to come in Thursday?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to see if he could get off work but — it’s the only way I’d be able to get there, but.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Would he get in trouble if he brings me?

CLINIC: You know, again, your parents know he’s around, right? They know how old he is?

CALLER: Yeah. He used to work with my dad.

CLINIC: That’s, you know — I don’t know all the stipulations with that, but I’m here to see you. You’re the one signing in.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: And that’s all that matters.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: If I needed an abortion, do my parents have to know about that?

CLINIC: You know what? That’s a whole other road. I’d probably wait and see what your test shows up as. But if you’re under 18 you either need parental consent or you’re going to have to go to juvenile court and see if you can get around it that way. I don’t know all that, so that’s why you’re going to come in and see the manager. She’s up to date with that, and she can — you know, she can direct you in the direction you need to go.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Do you want to make an appointment, and then if you can’t keep it do you want to cancel it at that time?

CALLER: Well, I don’t know. I just need to talk to my boyfriend and see.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: He’s not forcing you to have sex or anything like that?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Has anybody ever called Children’s Service Board on you guys?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay. But your mom and dad know about him?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: I hope I’ll see you on Thursday.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: What’s your first name just so if you walk in I’ll know.

CALLER: It’s Christine.

CLINIC: Okay, Christine. I hope to see you Thursday.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Bye.

CLINIC: Bye bye.
