CALLER: Well, I was wanting to ask some questions about getting an abortion.

CLINIC: Can you hold a second?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Yes. Thanks for holding. How can I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was wanting to ask some questions about getting an abortion.

CLINIC: Yes?

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: Depending on how far pregnant you are, it starts from 350 for local and 375 for general.

CALLER: How do you know how far you are?

CLINIC: When was your last period?

CALLER: January 3rd.

CLINIC: That’s going to be $375 to be asleep.

CALLER: The thing is, I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents.

CLINIC: You’re going to be what?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 on the 19th.

CLINIC: Fourteen what? Fourteen years old?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just take care of it, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: Well, who said we tell somebody?

CALLER: My friend told me that.

CLINIC: Oh, no. Your friend lying (laughing). We don’t tell people. We don’t do that. The services done here is confidential.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend and I talked about all this, and he said he would pay cash for everything. But we don’t want anybody to know anything about us.

CLINIC: That’s fine.

CALLER: But he doesn’t want his name on any forms or anything either.

CLINIC: Whose name on form?

CALLER: My boyfriend.

CLINIC: His name?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: We don’t put people’s boyfriends’ name on forms. You’re the person who coming.

CALLER: Even if he’s paying for it though?

CLINIC: Even if he — unless he’s paying by credit card or personal check, and he has to bring identification.

CALLER: Well, he’s paying by cash.

CLINIC: Then that’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. I haven’t had a pregnancy test yet. Would you guys do that there just to make sure?

CLINIC: Yeah, you get a full exam.

CALLER: Okay. But if I wasn’t pregnant, would I be able to get birth control too?

CLINIC: Right.

CALLER: But would anybody have to know about that?

CLINIC: We don’t give information out, dear heart. That’s what I’m trying to say to you. Whatever service is done here, that information remains here.

CALLER: How much does it cost for birth control?

CLINIC: Twenty dollars per package for the pills.

CALLER: All right. When would you do the pregnancy test?

CLINIC: Hold on a second.

CLINIC: So what do you want to do?

CALLER: Well, I was wondering when you normally do your pregnancy tests?

CLINIC: If you want to do just the urine test, you can walk in any day, Tuesday through Saturday between the hours of 12:30 and 3:30, depending on where you’re going. Where do you want to go?

CALLER: I’m not really sure.

CLINIC: Then you will have to know where you’re going so I can give you the hours.

CALLER: Well, I live in White Plains.

CLINIC: We have centers here in Brooklyn, Bronx or Manhattan. There are Planned Parenthood in White Plains. If you want the telephone number for White Plains, I can give it to you.

CALLER: Okay. Well, my boyfriend gave me this number to call, so I think he wanted me to go there where you’re at. Is that a better place to go?

CLINIC: I cannot compare it to White Plains. I have no idea what is White Plains or where it is.

CALLER: Okay. Let me have the White Plains number then.
