CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We don’t. We do it at White Plains and in our New Rochelle Center. Do you need their phone numbers?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: White Plains is 761-6566, and New Rochelle is 632-4442.

CALLER: Okay. Can I ask you a question?

CLINIC: Actually, we’re closed today, so I probably wouldn’t be able to answer it. What is it?

CALLER: Well, my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion.

CLINIC: No, that’s not true.

CALLER: Not at all?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: You wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right. My parents can’t find out at all because my boyfriend’s 22. And we’re planning on getting married because we’re in love. But my parents hate him because they think he’s too old. But there’s just no way that they can find out.

CLINIC: No. It’s confidential. And when you call the center, you can just verify that. I’m telling you that that’s the truth. Okay?

CALLER: Is there any age requirement to have an abortion or anything?

CLINIC: No. But you might want to ask these questions to the center that actually perform the abortion. I don’t really want to misinform you.

CALLER: I’m going to be 14 in March. I don’t know if they would —

CLINIC: I don’t think so. But again, you might want to ask them these questions because we don’t do abortions here. Okay?

CALLER: But you don’t think that they would tell anybody?

CLINIC: I don’t.

CALLER: If it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Yeah? And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody about that either?

CLINIC: No, it’s confidential.

CALLER: Okay. If my boyfriend has questions, can I call you back?

CLINIC: I would suggest that you call the center that does abortions. We don’t do abortions here. I gave you those two phone numbers. If you have questions, I think that they’re better at answering them. So you can just give them a call. Okay? We’re closed today, so I’m just gonna refer you to them. Okay. Take care.

CALLER: Well, like —

CLINIC: Hello?

CALLER: Yeah?

CLINIC: What’s wrong? What’s the problem?

CALLER: I was just really not wanting to talk to too many people about this. Is there any way that he could ask you questions?

CLINIC: I’m not even suppose to be answering the phones here today. It’s all anonymous. You just need to call those centers. Okay? I promise that everything is confidential.

CALLER: Are they going to be as nice as you?

CLINIC: Yes, they’re very nice. So you just need to call those centers. And they’ll be able to answer any questions. I don’t know your name. They’re not going to ask for your name unless you choose to make an appointment. It’s all confidential. There’s also an education department there, and they can spend as much time on the phone with you as you need. I’m basically the cleaning staff here. I wouldn’t be able to give you any good answers.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: So just give them a call. They’ll be able to help you, okay?

CALLER: Okay.
