CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. Cherie speaking. Can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Not at this site. Starting Friday we will have a site opening in Niagara Falls.

CALLER: Oh, okay. I was wondering if my parents have to find out about this at all. My friend said you guys have to tell them.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Not at all?

CLINIC: Uh-uh.

CALLER: My parents can’t find out at all. My boyfriend, he’s 22. And we’re going to get married. But they don’t like him because they think he’s too old for me. So they just can’t find out or anything.

CLINIC: Okay. Do you have insurance?

CALLER: Well, he said he was going to pay for it.

CLINIC: Well, yeah. Because with insurance, if you use the insurance then, yeah, your parents would find out. But if you’re just going to pay then, no. Nobody needs to know.

CALLER: Okay. Is there like an age limit for having an abortion?

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Not at all?

CLINIC: No. Did you want the number?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Can you wait a second, and I’ll get it for you?

CALLER: Okay.

CALLER: And that’s the zip code?

CLINIC: Yeah. Where are you calling from?

CALLER: I’m in Medina.

CLINIC: Medina?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. Yeah, they’re right in Niagara County. Do you know where the Sellert (?) Park Mall is in Niagara Falls, like the LaSalle area?

CALLER: I don’t know. I just moved here from Texas, so I don’t know the area very well at all.

CLINIC: Well. Yeah, they’re going to start doing them on Friday.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You know how far along you are?

CALLER: Well, my last period was like the first week in December.

CLINIC: Yeah. They’ll be able to tell you all that there. You’ll get an exam, and they’ll probably do a sonogram as well. Okay?

CALLER: And do you guys have to tell anybody or anything?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Nope. You can just give them a call.

CALLER: Okay. Is there like any way I could get birth control or anything?

CLINIC: Yeah. What they’ll do is ask you what type of birth control method you want to use. And then what you can do is just come back here because you’re going to need a post-check three weeks after the abortion. And you come here, make the appointment, and we can put you on birth control, and it’s still confidential.

CALLER: So you wouldn’t have to tell anybody about birth control either?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: All right. If I talk to my boyfriend later, and he has questions, can I talk to you later?

CLINIC: Sure. My name is Cherie
