CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: No? Do you know —

CLINIC: Not on this site. We just give you a referral somewhere to another Planned Parenthood, or we can give you a referral somewhere else– whatever suits you best. There’s like a whole explaining process on how each clinic works, and how they work, and how the anesthetic is done. So whatever you think is best for yourself.

So you would have to come in. Schedule an appointment first, come in, get a pregnancy test done. If it comes back positive, then we’ll give you a referral somewhere else. And we’ll counsel you on what you’re going to do and what you should do.

CALLER: Okay. Can I ask a few questions?

CLINIC: Excuse me?

CALLER: Can I ask you a question or two?

CLINIC: Yeah, you can ask me questions.

CALLER: Well, my main question is, like, my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: No. That’s not true.

CALLER: No?

CLINIC: Everything that’s said and done here is confidential, and you do not need your parents’ consent to get an abortion.

CALLER: Oh, okay. It’s just that my parents can’t find out at all because my boyfriend’s 22. And we want to get married, but they hate him because he’s just so old. Well, they just think he’s old.

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: Like, I don’t understand why they — but I’m going to be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Oh, okay. You think what’s best for you. Whatever you want to do. You can either call and make an appointment with us, and we’ll schedule you to get a pregnancy test done here.

CALLER: Okay. And nobody would have to know?

CLINIC: Nobody knows, honey. Nobody has to know.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: And will you go to get the abortion done, you can go with a friend, or even with him you can go.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Yeah. You have rights here, like everybody else. Everything that’s done here, we don’t need your parents’ consent.

CALLER: Okay. Like if it ends up that I’m not pregnant or whatever —

CLINIC: You can get on birth control.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: No one would have to know about that either?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Do you want to set an appointment?

CALLER: Well, is it all right if I call my boyfriend, and then call you back?

CLINIC: Okay. Call your boyfriend, discuss it with him, and then call me back.

CALLER: Okay. What was your name?

CLINIC: Ask for Demaris (sp).

CALLER: Huh?

CLINIC: Ask for Demaris.

CALLER: Demaris?

CLINIC: Yes, Demaris.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay, sweetie?

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Okay. Bye bye.
