CLINIC: Also Barnet (sp) Clinic does it too.

CALLER: Okay. So you do you not have a phone number?

CLINIC: Barnet is 684-6867.

CALLER: Okay. Can I ask you a question?

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Well, my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: I don’t know. How old are you?

CALLER: I’m going to be 14 in March.

CLINIC: That — I haven’t heard anything about that. You shouldn’t even — I can’t give you yes; I can’t give you no. Hold on.

CLINIC: Hello? Can I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was talking to someone. But I just wanted to ask some questions.

CLINIC: About?

CALLER: Like, I was telling her that my friend told me that I have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’m going to be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Um, hold on.

(Pause)

CLINIC: Hello?

CALLER: Yeah?

CLINIC: Okay. It depends where you go —

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: — if they require to tell your parents or not.

CALLER: Okay. Like, why?

CLINIC: I’m sorry?

CALLER: Why does it matter?

CLINIC: I don’t know. It depends on the rules over the facility you’re going to.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just that I can’t tell my parents at all.

CLINIC: Okay. You know where you can go? You can go to Women’s Health in Barnet Hospital.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And they refer you to a doctor from there. Or you can go — you can go to Metropolitan in Hackensack.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And I know a doctor, Ramine Cocazello (ph), that does that too.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: But you’ll have to pay for anesthesiology, and you have to pay for him too.

CALLER: But they wouldn’t have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay. Because if they found out I was having sex with my boyfriend, they would flip out. They absolutely hate him, because he’s 22. They think he’s too old for me.

CLINIC: Yeah, well it depends on the rules of the facility you go to.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You want the number for Women’s Health in Barnet?

CALLER: Yes, please.

CLINIC: 973-977-6867.

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Well, you’re sure no one has to know?

CLINIC: Well, you can ask there.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: That depends on the rule. I told you. I don’t know how they work.

CALLER: Okay. Well, if it ends up that I’m not pregnant, do you guys do birth control?

CLINIC: Yeah, we do.

CALLER: And you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody about that either?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Not at all?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Could I call you back?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Jamie.

CALLER: Jamie?

CLINIC: Yes.
