CLINIC: Thank you for calling Planned Parenthood. This is Maria. How can we help you?
CALLER: Hi. I was calling to see — well, do you guys do abortions there?
CLINIC: No, we don’t, but I can give you a referral.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Ready?
CALLER: Yeah.
CLINIC: Okay. It’s 827-0616. And the name of the clinic is West End Medical Clinic.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Uh-huh.
CALLER: Where is that exactly?
CLINIC: That is close to (Meadowen Mall?), but they’ll give you directions to get there.
CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know — I’m just worried because like — well I’ll be 14 next month, and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my —
CLINIC: Oh, no!
CALLER: But my boyfriend is 22.
CLINIC: Not at all.
CALLER: Well, it’s just my boyfriend’s 22. Would he be old enough to take care of it?
CLINIC: What do you mean, care of it?
CALLER: Well, I don’t know. Would he be able to just sign whatever it is and they wouldn’t have to tell anybody?
CLINIC: They don’t have to tell anybody. You don’t even have to have your boyfriend with you.
CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, he just said that he would pay for everything, so would it be all right if he was with me?
CLINIC: Yes. I don’t think they’re entitled to do anything regarding that.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Okay. Well, the main reason why I’m worried about it is because I haven’t had my period since like December 26.
CLINIC: Um-hum.
CALLER: And I’m just scared.
CLINIC: Have you had a test done?
CALLER: No.
CLINIC: You probably do need to get one done.
CALLER: Well, could I come in there for that?
CLINIC: Yeah, you can come in today between 1:00 and 4:00 for the pregnancy test.
CALLER: Okay, but how long does that normally take?
CLINIC: About 30 minutes to an hour today just because we have drop-in clinic today, and that means nobody has an appointment, so first come, first serve.
CALLER: Well, how much does that cost?
CLINIC: $5.00.
CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant could I get birth control there?
CLINIC: We can — it will be based on a lot of things, so whenever you can come in we can discuss that.
CALLER: Oh. Well, so —
CLINIC: Because you know, if you haven’t had a period, you’re late, or let’s say you’re not pregnant, we still will have to wait two more weeks with you abstaining. That means no sex — and then run another test.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: Because, you know, if it doesn’t show up that you’re pregnant now you could have gotten pregnant a week ago, but it still won’t show.
CALLER: Really?
CLINIC: Um-hum.
CALLER: Oh. Well, if — but after everything is all right and I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control?
CLINIC: OH, yeah. Yeah. Of course.
CALLER: Okay. Well, would you have to tell anybody if I was on birth control though?
CLINIC: No. You don’t need your parents permission to come to us, to go to that clinic you talked about to get birth control.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: You don’t have to.
CALLER: It’s just, I just don’t want anybody to know about this, so.
CLINIC: Oh, we can’t.
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay.
CALLER: Well, if I thought of any other questions could I call and talk to you?
CLINIC: Yeah. No problem.
CALLER: And your name was Maria?
CLINIC: Uh-huh.
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Okay, thanks.
CLINIC: Okay, bye.
CALLER: Bye.
