CLINIC: No. Actually, you would have to come in and talk to somebody. You would need an adult. I should say, a guardian.

CALLER: What do you mean by that?

CLINIC: One of your parents.

CALLER: Oh. Well, is there any way not to have to tell my parents at all?

CLINIC: Unfortunately not. No.

CALLER: Oh. Well, what can I do? I mean, I can’t tell my parents at all. If they found out, I don’t know what they would do.

CLINIC: Right. Well, without that, we can’t.

CALLER: Oh. Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: So you can’t do an abortion without my parents —

CLINIC: Correct.

CALLER: All right. Well, could I come in for a pregnancy test just to make sure though?

CLINIC: Yeah, you can do that.

CALLER: Would you have to have anybody there for that?

CLINIC: For an abortion, you would.

CALLER: Well, for like a pregnancy test though.

CALLER: Oh, okay. So you don’t have to tell anybody that I’m getting a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: No. For an abortion, you do though.

CALLER: All right. If there was any way that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: But would you have to tell anybody about that?

CLINIC: We would need a parental consent, yes.

CALLER: For birth control?

CLINIC: Up until 4:30.

CLINIC: Everyday.

CLINIC: Actually, we would request that you call the nurse. And she’s only available on Saturday.

CALLER: Well, could I talk to you if I had to schedule something else besides a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: Right, with a parental consent, yes.

CLINIC: You can talk to anybody here in this clinic.

CALLER: Yeah. What was your name again?

CLINIC: Myrna.

CALLER: Oh, okay. I was holding for somebody asking about getting an abortion. Can you answer whatever questions I have?

CLINIC: Sure, absolutely.

CALLER: Okay. Well, I was just basically calling to see if I can get an abortion. But how much does it cost?

CLINIC: If you’re under 11 weeks, it’s 335.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how do you know how many weeks you are?

CLINIC: What we do is do an ultra sound for you, and we do a measurement.

CALLER: Okay. My last period was January 3rd. Does that make any difference?

CLINIC: You know what? Sometimes we just go from the (unclear) wheel, and sometimes we do an ultra sound, depending on results that we have. If it was January, you still would be on the 335 range, according to your period date.

CALLER: Okay. So 335, you think?

CLINIC: Yeah. This includes an ultra sound, birth control pills and medication.

CALLER: The thing is, I’m going to be 14 later on this month. And my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just sign whatever it is, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, because you’re only 14.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: Yeah, we would really need to see your parents for that.

CALLER: Well, is there any way not to tell my parents? Because I can’t tell my parents at all. If they found out about this, I don’t know what they would do.

CLINIC: Okay. Myrna told me what was going on. Honey, our doctor will not do it without parental consent. You may find another doctor that will. Ours will not. We require your parents present.

CALLER: Well, is there anyplace else in the state that I could go?

CLINIC: You’ll have to call around. I don’t know who will or won’t do that.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: We won’t.

CALLER: Well, could I come in there to get a pregnancy test just to make sure? I just haven’t had a pregnancy test.

CLINIC: Yes. You can do a pregnancy test, Monday through Friday, 8 to 4. There’s no charge,

CALLER: Okay. But would anybody have to know if I was getting a pregnancy test though?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. My boyfriend and I were talking about al this. And he said that he would pay for everything, but he doesn’t anyone to know about us. We would have to sign any forms or anything?

CLINIC: We won’t do it, honey. Your parents have to be present if we do it.

CALLER: For a pregnancy test though?

CLINIC: Oh, for a pregnancy test, it doesn’t matter. There’s no charge.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Just come in.

CALLER: Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control from you guys?

CLINIC: Yes, you could. Your parents will do that. We charge $70 for that. And your parents don’t need to be here.

CALLER: Oh. But do they have to know or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Not just to get on pills, but for abortion, they do.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: When do you guys normally do the pregnancy test?

CLINIC: You can come in Monday through Friday, 8 to 4.
