TAPE – 540

(dialing sounds) (ringing 2X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh. Well, do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: Cinnamon?) Health Care Center.

CALLER: Okay, where is that?

CLINIC: You can look it up in the phone book under “abortion.”

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: You don’t have the number for that though?

CLINIC: Uh-uh.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do you know — I’m just really worried about all this because like I’m going to be 14 next month.

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: And my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents I’m getting an abortion. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is it all right if he just signs whatever it is, and they wouldn’t have to tell anybody about anything?

CLINIC: You sound like you need to talk to a counselor.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay. Call over to the other site. The number is 238-3631. And ask to speak to Anita.

CALLER: Anita?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: Okay. Well, could I come in there for a pregnancy test though, just to see if I was pregnant?

CLINIC: Yes, you could. They’re $5.

CALLER: Okay. Well, would you have to tell anybody that I was there for a pregnancy test though?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, I’m not old enough to drive. My boyfriend said that he would bring me and pay for everything. But we were talking about all this, and we just don’t want my parents to know. But —

CLINIC: Well, it would probably be better for you to talk, like I said, talk to the counselor over there. It doesn’t have anything to do with your parents.

CALLER: Oh. But to come in for the pregnancy test would you guys have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, he would have to be there with me. Would that be all right?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay. But he said — would he have to sign anything? He’s just worried about people finding out if he —

CLINIC: No. No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: You would have to get an exam done.

CALLER: Oh, okay. But would they have to tell anybody about birth control though?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, I just have a lot of questions. I don’t know. But could I call you back about the — like if my boyfriend had any questions about the pregnancy test could I call and ask you?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: You sure can.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Deborah.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Um-hum. Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.
