CLINIC: (unclear) Health Services.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We do.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know how much it costs for that?

CLINIC: When was the last time you had a period?

CALLER: January 3rd.

CLINIC: January 3rd?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: The fee would be $275 if you want to be awake or $450 if you wanted to be asleep.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know — it’s just the thing is I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend said you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: There is no parental consent law in Maryland.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So no, we wouldn’t have to tell them.

CALLER: Okay. Well, it’s just me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and he said that he would pay for everything. But we don’t want anyone to know about us. Would he have to sign anything if he was paying for it all?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You still have to fill out paperwork and stuff.

CALLER: Well, would he?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. All right. Well, do you guys do pregnancy tests there just to make sure?

CLINIC: It costs $5. We do.

CALLER: Okay. What time do you normally do them?

CLINIC: Mostly every day except for Monday and Saturday and we do them from — I’m here until 4:30. I get here about 9:00.

CALLER: Okay. So my boyfriend works from 8 to 5.

CLINIC: Okay. I have two other people have called in front of you, and so I put them on hold to answer your call, so I’m going to put you on hold for a second, okay?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Sorry about that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: What were the rest of your questions?

CALLER: Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Well, if you just came in for a pregnancy test — I’m getting the feeling that if you think that if you come in for a pregnancy test I can give you birth control at that time, and that’s not what happens. But yes, we do do birth control but you he’d have to make a separate appointment for it.

CALLER: Okay. How much is it for that appointment?

CLINIC: $85. But you’re a student and — how old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 on the 19th.

CLINIC: You’re better off going to Planned Parenthood. It will be so much cheaper. It will be like free.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Yeah. So you want to find — look in the white pages and find a Planned Parenthood that’s close to your house.

CALLER: Okay. Well, if I needed to get an appointment with you could I call you back? What was your name?

CLINIC: My name’s Lori.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: All right. Thank you.
