CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Yes, uh-huh.

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: Just a moment please.

CLINIC: The thing is, my boyfriend said he would pay for everything in cash. But I’m must kind of worried. I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22, and he said he would take care of everything. Would that be all right, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: You would need to talk with the nurse practitioner about that. There are certain restrictions that do apply. So she’s the one that would talk with you and let you know exactly where you stand.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: If you’d like to leave your name and your number, she will

CALLER: Well, I’m at my friend’s house. And her mom would answer the phone, and I’d get in trouble.

CLINIC: Okay. Well, then you call us back when you can be called back, okay?

CALLER: Well, could I ask you something else different though?

CLINIC: Well, I don’t know anything about it. She’s the one that would have to answer the questions for you.

CALLER: What’s her name?

CLINIC: Mary.

CALLER: And what was your name?

CLINIC: Karen.

CALLER: Okay. So should I just call back later this afternoon?

CLINIC: You can. If she’s not in with a patient, she’ll talk with you because she just makes calls and takes messages in between patients.

CALLER: So she doesn’t have her okay. Well, do you guys ever do pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: We do for our patients, yes. And if you come in, and you’re scheduled, and you don’t have one, you would have to do that. If you’re wanting one, and you think you need one, the best place to go is Planned Parenthood. They’re cheaper, and

CALLER: But they gave me your number to talk to.

CLINIC: But did they tell you about a pregnancy test?

CALLER: Just told me to call you guys.

CLINIC: Well, it’s more expensive to have to come here and have it done.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend said he would pay for everything.

CLINIC: We don’t do it unless you’re an established patient or you have scheduled to come in for your exam.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So if you want to leave your name and number, Mary will call you back; or if you want to call back, then you can do that.

CLINIC: — if you’re 17 and under.

CALLER: Well, is there any way not to have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: You have to get a court junction.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how do you do that?

CLINIC: If you want, you could call Planned Parenthood of Idaho for information, and they would be able to help you do that.

CALLER: Okay. Well, does the judge usually say yes?

CLINIC: That I don’t know. They have more familiarity with that than I do.

CALLER: Well, do you know if I need a lawyer or anything?

CLINIC: I think they help you take care of all of that.

CALLER: Could I come in there for a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: Actually it’s still with a consent law.

CALLER: So if I go to the judge and he said it was okay —

CLINIC: You should go to Planned Parenthood for a test.

CALLER: Oh, really?

CLINIC: So what you probably need to do is call them first and see what you need to do.

CALLER: So Planned Parenthood wouldn’t have to have my parents’ consent for a pregnancy test then?

CLINIC: That I’m not sure about. But call them and they’ll let you know for sure.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know — I’m just worried about all this because like I’m going to be 14 next month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: Well, we don’t tell anybody. We actually — there’s nothing that we can do for you here.

CLINIC: As far as that goes.

CALLER: Well, could I — I’m just worried about all this because I haven’t had my period since like December 21st. Could I come in there a pregnancy test though?

CLINIC: Sure. Yeah, you can. And then they’ll give you counseling on it also.

CALLER: Oh. Well, would they have to tell anybody that I was there?

CLINIC: No. No. That’s completely confidential.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and we don’t want anyone to know about us. But he was paying for everything. Would he have to sign anything?

CLINIC: Actually, they’ll go over that when you come in for your pregnancy test. You will be responsible at that point for the pregnancy test. It will be on a donation basis. So it costs anywhere from $10 to $12, so if he just wants to donate that, that would be great. And then —

CALLER: But would he have to sign anything?

CLINIC: No. He doesn’t have to. You would.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: And we won’t tell your parents about that. But then they’ll give you counseling as far as a termination or any other options you want.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, if it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant could I get birth control? Just we don’t want to have to worry about all this anymore.

CLINIC: Yeah, you can. We can set you up for an appointment for that.

CALLER: But how much does birth control cost?

CLINIC: For you it would be on a donation basis only.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, if I was on birth control though, would you have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. None of your — nothing you have done here is — it’s all completely confidential.

CALLER: Oh, all right.
