CLINIC: Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: We do it between 6 weeks to 14 weeks.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how do you know how far along you are?

CLINIC: By your last period.

CALLER: Oh. Well, my last period was like December 21st.

CLINIC: Oh. Hold on, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Hello? Okay. So you want to go ahead and make an appointment?

CALLER: Well, I don’t know. I just was wanting to ask some questions first.

CLINIC: Okay. You want to see how far along you are from December 21?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. Right now you’re about — was this a normal period?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. You’re about between 9 to 10 weeks.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how much would an abortion cost then?

CLINIC: An abortion would cost $450 for a positive blood type less than 11 weeks, $495 for get a blood type (unclear).

CALLER: Do you know — I’m just worried about all this because like, well I’m going to be 14 next month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just sign whatever it is and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody about anything?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Okay. So —

CLINIC: So do you want to go ahead?

CALLER: Well, I would have to call him to see when he can bring me, but when do you guys normally do your appointments?

CLINIC: We do it Monday, Tuesdays, Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, but we’re pretty book up, you know. So don’t take too long to make an appointment.

CALLER: Okay. Well, could I get a pregnancy test to make sure first?

CLINIC: Okay. Before I can even do the appointment, yeah, you need to take a positive pregnancy test to confirm you are pregnant.

CALLER: Oh. Well, could I come in there and do that? I just haven’t done one of those yet.

CLINIC: Okay. It’s $20 here. You might want to think about that and —

CALLER: Oh, well, my boyfriend said that he would pay for everything, so.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: I just want to make sure it was done right. That’s why I wanted to come there and do it.

CLINIC: Oh, did you do one at home?

CALLER: No. I haven’t done anything. I’m just — I haven’t had my period for awhile, so I’m worried.

CLINIC: Okay. Yeah, you can come here. It’s $20.

CALLER: But would you have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay. It’s just, I don’t want anybody to know about me and my boyfriend. So.

CLINIC: You don’t have to worry about that.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay. Well, if it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: Yeah. You just need to get an exam done with us first, and we have funding for teens right now. Until it runs out. But we would provide you with the exam for free and whatever contraceptive you choose.

CALLER: Well, would anybody have to know that I was on birth control though?

CLINIC: No! (emphatically) (sighs)

CALLER: Oh, okay. I’m just really worried.

CLINIC: Yeah. You don’t to worry about confidentiality.

CALLER: My parents can’t find out at all, because —

CLINIC: No. Even if they called and asked we won’t tell. The only way they would have to find out is you signing a medical release stating with your permission.

CALLER: Oh. I’m just worried because like my friend told me that you guys would have to ask about my boyfriend and stuff.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: No. (laughs)

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Okay. You’ve been so nice. What — if I could think of any other questions could I call and talk to you? What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Shirley.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: And I would call you after I talk to my boyfriend for an appointment?

CLINIC: Okay. That’s fine. I’ll be here.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay. Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.
