CLINIC: Good afternoon, Presidential Women’s Center. This is Ellen. How may I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: Is it for yourself?

CALLER: Is what?

CLINIC: Is it for yourself?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Can you tell me when the first day of your last normal period was?

CALLER: January 3rd.

CLINIC: In the first trimester the fee for the procedure is $340.

CALLER: Okay. The thing is, I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just take care of it all, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: There’s no parental consent law in this state. That’s not true. We don’t have to tell anyone.

CALLER: Okay. Me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and he said that he would pay cash for everything. But we don’t want anyone to know about us. Would he have to sign any forms if he was paying for it?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Do you guys do pregnancy tests beforehand just to make sure?

CLINIC: What we do is an ultra sound, and we do that before the procedure’s completed. That will confirm the number of weeks pregnant.

CALLER: It’s just I haven’t had a pregnancy test yet. Would you guys —

CLINIC: You can come in and do that here beforehand. It’s $10. And if it’s positive, you can make an appointment.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, when do you normally do that, the pregnancy tests.

CLINIC: Monday through Saturday.

CALLER: What?

CLINIC: Monday through Saturday?

CALLER: What time?

CLINIC: We open at 8:30, and you need to be here by about 4.

CALLER: Okay. If it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: We don’t do that here.

CALLER: Oh, really?

CLINIC: No we do abortions and tubal ligations and pregnancy tests.

CALLER: Well, where should I go to get birth control? It’s just me and my boyfriend don’t want to have to worry about all this anymore.

CLINIC: We can help you with that. We can help you get you to a place, but let’s have you come in and do the pregnancy test first.

CALLER: Oh, okay. So this Saturday would be good?

CLINIC: Sure, that’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. All right. Thanks.

CLINIC: You’re welcome.

CALLER: Bye.
