CLINIC: Planned Parenthood (Claim Wak?). Can you please hold?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Thank you. (pause) Thanks for holding. How can I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Not at this location. You have to call to the Wilmington office. I can give you that number.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: It’s 655-7293.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you guys do like birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Do you have to be a specific age to get that?

CLINIC: Well, it’s 12 and over you can come to Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Okay, so like I’ll be 14 in March and that’s like all right and everything?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You have to make an appointment though. Once you make an appointment and you just come in and see the nurse practitioner, and she’ll talk about what’s good for you, whatever birth control is good for you. And it’s $5.00 for your pills. And if you were interested in depo, it’s $5.00 for that too.

CALLER: Well, my friend actually told me that you guys have to know that my boyfriend’s 22 before I can. Is that true?

CLINIC: Why would we have to know that?

CALLER: I don’t — that’s just what she said.

CLINIC: No. He’s 22?

CALLER: Huh?

CLINIC: Your boyfriend is 22?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Why do you have a boyfriend so old?

CALLER: Well, we’re in love. We’re going to get married.

CLINIC: Are you?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Well, call me back. Do you need — hold on a second. Don’t hang up. Hold on.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay, listen. Did you have to call down to the Wilmington Office? Do you think you’re pregnant now?

CALLER: Well, yeah. Like my last period was like the first week in December, so I’m just —

CLINIC: Okay. Did you take a pregnancy test yet?

CALLER: I took a home pregnancy test over the weekend, and it came out positive.

CLINIC: Oh, it did? Okay. Yeah. What’s going to happen is, if you do call down there and make an appointment for a procedure, you’re going to have to wait about a month or so before you can make an appointment with us.

CALLER: How come?

CLINIC: Because you have to have time to heal. After your procedure, if it’s done through Planned Parenthood you automatically come here for your follow-up checkup after that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And then once you do that, then we can make an appointment for you to come in to become a patient.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So get back in touch with me.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like my parents don’t have to know or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: And you guys —

CLINIC: Now as far as your procedure goes, because you’re under 16 I’m not exactly sure.

CALLER: Oh, because they can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Yeah. Call them and find out everything because they will tell you. But it’s just a matter of the fact that we don’t do it here, so I have limited information.

CALLER: Okay. But you guys don’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. Everything is confidential.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So call me back whenever — after you make your appointment with them. Call me a few weeks later to make your appointment with us.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And you can become a patient then.

CALLER: Oh. Well, what was your name?

CLINIC: Jenny.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: What’s your name?

CALLER: My name is Christine.

CLINIC: Christine? All right. Call me back, okay?

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: All right. Bye bye.

CALLER: Thanks.
