CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was on hold and I had to hang up the phone because my friend’s mom came in. But —
CLINIC: Okay. Hold on, please.
CALLER: Well, do you know like if — do you know if there’s a specific age to have an abortion?
CLINIC: (unclear). How can I help you?
CALLER: Hi, yeah. I was wondering like — well, do you have to be a specific age to get an abortion? Like I’ll be 14 later on this month.
CLINIC: No, not within the state of Connecticut.
CALLER: Oh, really?
CLINIC: No.
CALLER: Okay. It’s just my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents and stuff. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is it okay if he signs whatever it is and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?
CLINIC: None of that matters here, hon.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: You can come here and it doesn’t matter.
CALLER: Oh, all right. Well, so how much did you say that it was?
CLINIC: It’s between 4 and 7, depending on how far along you are.
CALLER: Oh. Well, how do you know how far along you are?
CLINIC: You do the exam and ultrasound here.
CALLER: Okay. It’s just the main reason why I’m scared about all this is because I haven’t had my period since like January 3, and I’m just really worried.
CLINIC: Okay. Do you live in the New Haven area?
CALLER: I live in Northford.
CLINIC: Northford? So you’re closer to where, Meridon?
CALLER: I think — well, I think I’m closer to you guys, so.
CLINIC: Okay. Do you want to schedule an appointment here?
CALLER: Well, I would have to call my boyfriend to see, but — because he would be the only way to take me.
CLINIC: Okay, talk to him, and why don’t you guys call me together and we’ll schedule an appointment for you to come in?
CALLER: Well, it’s just — the thing is, me and him were talking about all this and we don’t want a whole bunch of people to know about us. If he was paying for everything —
CLINIC: Everything is confidential here, hon. I just need you to check with him on his schedule and call me to schedule an appointment.
CALLER: Okay. Well, if he was paying for everything would he have to sign anything?
CLINIC: No.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: No.
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Well, when do you normally do appointments?
CLINIC: Monday through Saturday.
CALLER: What time?
CLINIC: Can you check on his schedule with him first and then we’ll figure out the best time for you to come in?
CALLER: Okay. Well if —
CLINIC: Hold on, please? Do you know his schedule enough to schedule an appointment now?
CALLER: Well, no. He usually works 8 to 5 though.
CLINIC: Okay. Do you want to come in for the exam and everything — do you know that you are pregnant?
CALLER: Huh?
CLINIC: Do you know that you’re pregnant?
CALLER: Well, no. I just haven’t had my period —
CLINIC: You just haven’t had your period, okay. So do you want to come in for a urine test today?
CALLER: I don’t know. What time today?
CLINIC: What time could you come in?
CALLER: Well, how late are you open today?
CLINIC: We take our last appointment at 6:30.
CALLER: I could probably make it in before then.
CLINIC: Okay. What time can you come in?
CALLER: Let me call him and see. But if ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?
CLINIC: Yes, you can.
CALLER: Would I be able to get that today?
CLINIC: No. We’d need to schedule you for another appointment.
CALLER: But would anybody have to know if I was on birth control though?
CLINIC: No, hon. No one’s going to know that you come here.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Well, let me call my boyfriend and call you back. What was your name?
CLINIC: You don’t have to call us back, honey. Just come in before 6:30, okay?
CALLER: To make the appointment?
CLINIC: You can just come in before 6:30.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: What was your name if I had to —
CLINIC: My name is Sophina.
CALLER: Okay, thanks.
CLINIC: Okay?
