CLINIC: Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No. They do them in Norwich.

CALLER: In Norwich?

CLINIC: Um-hmm. Do you want the number there?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: It’s 860-889-5211.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Do you know if I can ask you a question?

CLINIC: What kind of question do you have?

CALLER: My friend told me that I have to tell my parents if I want to have an abortion.

CLINIC: No, you don’t have to tell your parents. Nope.

CALLER: Not at all?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: The problem is, I can’t tell my parents because my boyfriend’s 22. And we’re plan on getting married, but my parents hate him. They say he’s too old for me.

CLINIC: Okay. Well, you don’t have to tell them.

CALLER: Not at all?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Any other questions?

CALLER: Yeah. How do you know for sure?

CLINIC: If you’re pregnant?

CALLER: Yeah —

CLINIC: You need to do a pregnancy test.

CALLER: Yeah. I took one, but it says it was positive, but I don’t know.

CLINIC: Well, you can come on down and we’ll do one here.

CALLER: Is there any age limit or anything for that?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’m going to be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay. Then you just want to come in and ask for a pregnancy test. We’ll give you the paperwork, and we’ll have you leave a urine sample.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: There will be no charge or you.

CALLER: No charge?

CLINIC: Yeah. But the abortion will cost $500. So you may want to let your boyfriend know that.

CALLER: But you won’t have to tell anybody about this at all?

CLINIC: No. Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Then we’ll see you later.

CALLER: Ummm —

CLINIC: Yeah?

CALLER: Can I call you back. I need to talk to him about this. But can I call you back?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Heidi.

CALLER: Heidi?

CLINIC: Yep. Bye.

CALLER: Umm —

CLINIC: What? (laughing)

CALLER: If I wasn’t pregnant would there be any way that I could get birth control there?

CLINIC: You need to have an exam, and then they’ll get you birth control.

CALLER: Okay. And you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody about that either?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Bye bye.
