(Dialing, phone ringing 4x)

CLINIC: (Unclear) Women’s Clinic. This is Robin. How may I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We do.

CALLER: How much does that cost?

CLINIC: It depends on how far along you are. From 6 to 12 weeks if $450.

CALLER: How do you know how far along you are?

CLINIC: When was the first day of your last menstrual period?

CALLER: January 3rd.

CLINIC: January 3rd?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. Let’s see. (Pause) You’re about nine weeks.

CALLER: Okay. So I’m in that first group then?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay. And much did you say that was?

CLINIC: Four hundred and fifty dollars.

CALLER: The thing is I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just sign whatever it is, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, we won’t have to — no, we won’t tell your parents. Everything’s confidential here, unless it’s an emergency. Then we would have to notify your parents.

CALLER: Oh, okay. We were talking about all this, and he said he would pay cash for everything. But we don’t want anybody to know about us. If he was paying for everything, would he have to sign anything?

CLINIC: Probably just the receipt.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: That’s about it. Everything is strictly confidential. In the state of Colorado we do not have to notify the parents unless it’s a medical emergency, if something were to happen and you had to go to the emergency room.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just that we don’t want anybody to know at all.

CLINIC: Yeah. Do you want to go ahead and make an appointment or do you want to go ahead and talk about it some more with your boyfriend?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to call him and see. I just haven’t had a pregnancy test yet. Do you guys do those there?

CLINIC: We do.

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: It’s free.

CALLER: Oh, really?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay. But if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: Have you had a pap smear yet?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay. You would have to just get a pap smear for $30, and then we can give you birth control.

CALLER: Would anybody have to know if I was on birth control though?

CLINIC: No. Everything is confidential here.

CALLER: So nobody has to know about my boyfriend?

CLINIC: No, nobody has to know, only the staff here.

CALLER: Okay. All right. And your name was Robin?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: When do you normally do the pregnancy test?

CLINIC: Monday through Friday.

CALLER: What time?

CLINIC: 9 to 5.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: I’m sorry, 9 to 4.

CALLER: When do you normally do the abortions?

CLINIC: Thursday through Saturday.

CALLER: So it would be best to come in on Thursday?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: Well, what time do you normally do them on Thursday?

CLINIC: We would have to schedule an appointment. And our next availability is not until I believe the 15th of March.

CALLER: Would that be too late?

CLINIC: I’m sorry. When was your first day of your last menstrual period again?

CALLER: January 3rd.

CLINIC: No, you’ll be about 10 weeks.

CALLER: Oh, okay. So let me tell my boyfriend and call you back. Is that all right?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Thank you.

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Bye bye.
