CLINIC: Good afternoon. Planned Parenthood Chico.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Well, how much do those cost?

CLINIC: Well, it depends. Do you have Medical?

CALLER: Well, no.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: But my boyfriend said he would pay for everything, so.

CLINIC: Okay. Do you know how many weeks you are?

CALLER: No. I just know that — I’m just worried because I haven’t had my period since like December 21st, and I’m scared.

CLINIC: Okay. And you haven’t taken a pregnancy test?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay, that would be the first thing to do. Can you come in this afternoon?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend to see because he would be the only way I could get there. But I think so, maybe.

CLINIC: Okay. So —

CALLER: How late are you guys open?

CLINIC: Well, we only do pregnancy testing until 4:00.

CALLER: Oh. Well, do you do them like tomorrow?

CLINIC: No. We won’t have them tomorrow, but we could get you in Thursday.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Unless you wanted to come in the afternoon tomorrow. I’m not sure if we’re going to have a counselor. But that’s the first thing you need to do is take a pregnancy test.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? And then to answer your question, for first trimester abortion it’s $345.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: And if you want —

CALLER: I’m just worried because like well my friend told me that since like, well, I’ll be 14 in March. She said that you guys would have to tell my parents I’m getting an abortion. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of that and they wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. Your parents do not have to know.

CALLER: Oh, okay. All right. But, so when should I come in for a pregnancy test then?

CLINIC: Actually if you can call your boyfriend to see if he can bring you in today, I have — is he at work or —

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Oh, he is at work?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: What time does he get off?

CALLER: Usually 5:00 but —

CLINIC: Okay, so he couldn’t get you in then before 4:00?

CALLER: I don’t know. Probably not.

CLINIC: Okay. So since you are 14 we need to give you the results in person because there’s information we need to give you.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: Otherwise, I can get you in Friday.

CALLER: Friday? What time on Friday?

CLINIC: Actually I can get you in, I could fit you in Thursday.

CALLER: Thursday?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: What time on Thursday?

CLINIC: Before 4:00. The earliest I have is a 9:45.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: 10:45, 11:30, 1:45, 2:45.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, I’ll talk to my boyfriend and see, but he usually likes to do stuff in the afternoon, so.

CLINIC: Yeah, it would have to be before 4:00.

CALLER: All right. Okay.

CLINIC: So call him and find out when you can come in.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just, we talked about all this, and we don’t want anyone to know about us. Would you have to know anything about him or anything?

CLINIC: About him?

CALLER: Yeah. Well, it’s just we’re worried because like my parents can’t find out about us. Well, like they know about us but they can’t find out — they don’t know that we’re having sex, and if they found out I don’t know what would happen.

CLINIC: Right. No, we have very strict confidential services. And your parents wouldn’t find out.

CALLER: All right. Okay. Well, so, if the pregnancy test turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: But would you have to tell anybody that I was in birth control though?

CLINIC: No. No, no, no. We have very, very strict confidential services.

CALLER: Okay. All right. Well, if like — well, I don’t know. If I could think of any other questions, could I call and talk to you? What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Jana, J-A-N-A.

CALLER: Uh-huh. Okay.

CLINIC: And I will be here until 5:30 today.

CALLER: All right. Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? What’s your name?

CALLER: Huh? I’m Christine.

CLINIC: Stacy?

CALLER: Christine.

CLINIC: Oh, I’m sorry. Christine.

CALLER: Yeah.
