TAPE – 602

(Dialing, phone ringing 2x)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. This is Beth. Can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: You’re calling our central office in Williston. I can refer you to a closer medical service office.

CALLER: Well, I live in Eden.

CLINIC: Eden, Vermont?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: You could try Burlington Planned Parenthood, Rutland or Barre. I can give you those phone numbers.

CALLER: Could I get the one in Burlington?

CLINIC: Sure. It’s 863-6326.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Do you want the one in Barre as well?

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: You want to just try Burlington?

CALLER: Yeah. Well, could I ask you real quick — I’m just worried. I’ll be 14 next month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is that old enough to take care of it, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: Well, you should call the Burlington office because they would have the correct medical information. But you do not need parental consent in Vermont for abortion services.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do they do pregnancy tests there too though?

CLINIC: Yep. So you should give them a call directly.

CALLER: Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, do they also do birth control?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Oh, okay. It’s just me and my boyfriend don’t want to have to go through all this again. But they wouldn’t have to tell anybody about birth control either?

CLINIC: No. Parental consent is not required for that.

CALLER: Oh, okay. All right. Me and my boyfriend don’t want a whole bunch of people to know about us. But he said that he would pay for everything. Would they have him sign anything if he was paying?

CLINIC: No. But you should call them directly.

CALLER: Okay. All right. Thanks.

CLINIC: Sure. Bye bye.
