CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. How can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: We don’t here in the Hanover office. It would be through our York office. Would you like their number?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. The one I’m actually going to have you call for that particular service is 1-800-498-6573.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, can I ask a few questions really?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like my friend told me that if I was going to have an abortion you guys have to tell my parents. Is that true?

CLINIC: Well, I — I’m not really clear on that. I just know that if you’re under 18 you do have to have informed consent.

CALLER: Oh. Well, I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay. I’ll tell you what. The best thing to do is call that 800 number because whoever answers that line is going to have all the correct, you know, most up-to-date information.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: About all your questions.

CALLER: Do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: And like no one would have to know about that?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like it’s just the reason why my parents can’t find out is because like my boyfriend’s 22, and we’re going to get married and everything, but they can’t find out at all because they hate him. They think he’s too old.

CLINIC: Okay. Okay. Yeah — like I said, I think the best thing would be to call the 800 number, and they can answer that much better than I.

CALLER: Well, like if I was getting birth control it would be all right and everything, or–

CLINIC: Um-hum. Um-hum.

CALLER: Okay, and you wouldn’t — so you wouldn’t —

CLINIC: You don’t need parental consent or no contact to the parents for birth control.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, is it all right if he brings me and everything?

CLINIC: We’d have to make an appointment.

CALLER: Oh, well —

CLINIC: Yeah, because to get on birth control pills you have to have an exam and everything, a pelvic exam and a pap smear.

CALLER: Oh. Is — is it — can you guys do like a pregnancy test there?

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: And do I have to have an appointment for that?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, is it okay if I call my boyfriend and then call you back?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: I just need to find out when he can get off work to take me, but what was your name?

CLINIC: My name’s Jodie.

CALLER: Jodie?

CLINIC: And if you want to just make an appointment for a pregnancy test it’s probably going to be some time later next week. But if you want to make an appointment for an exam and everything it is going to be about two to three weeks. We are really booked this time of year.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: That’s something to keep in mind when you find out when he can get off work.

CALLER: So should I call the York office, or if you guys are real busy?

CLINIC: Well, that’s up to you. They may be able to get you in sooner. I’m not sure what their schedule is like.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: All right. Thank you.

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Bye.

CALLER: Bye.
