CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: Do you know of anybody that does?

CLINIC: All we’re doing is asking people to just look in a phone book.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do you guys do the pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: But it doesn’t really matter. You’re going to have to have one there when you go to the clinic anyway. If that’s your option, then you’re going to have to have that for the clinic.

CALLER: Could I get that there and then take it over there? Could I go to where you’re at?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: It’s just my friend told me it would be best to go to you guys.

CLINIC: Oh, okay. Yeah. We don’t offer the abortion though, but yeah.

CALLER: Do you have to be a certain age for that? My friend told me that since I’ll be 14 in March that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just take care of that?

CLINIC: We would have to tell your parents what?

CALLER: That I was there.

CLINIC: We don’t have to tell your parents anything.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: I would just feel better if my boyfriend was there with me. Is that all right?

CLINIC: That’s fine.

CALLER: You wouldn’t have to ask anything about him? He’s just worried that you guys would be asking a lot of questions.

CLINIC: About him? Why would we need to know about him?

CALLER: I don’t know.

CLINIC: He’s not filling out any paperwork or anything, is he?

CALLER: Well, I don’t know. Would he have to?

CLINIC: No, he doesn’t have to. That’s my point. He doesn’t have to do anything but just sit there (chuckle).

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: So no. I don’t have to know anything about him, or your parents don’t get to know anything or whatever.

CALLER: If it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: Yeah. But that would be something that you will have to do with the nurse whenever you come in. If she’s not here, I’ll give you her schedule.

CALLER: Well, how long does it take to do that?

CLINIC: Do what?

CALLER: Talk to the nurse and get birth control?

CLINIC: About 30 minutes. Hassle-free.

CALLER: Huh?

CLINIC: I said it’s hassle-free.

CALLER: Well, if I was on birth control, would you guys have to tell anybody that I was on birth control?

CLINIC: Nope. We don’t have to tell your parents anything. We are strictly confidential. When you come in here, it’s you. Your parents don’t have to know anything. The only way they have to know is if you tell them. They can’t call here and get any information about you.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just I don’t want anybody to know.

CLINIC: Right. I understand. And we are not allowed to tell anyone anything. And if you feel someone’s done that, then you have the right to take action. Your information is confidential, no matter your age or anything. Okay?

CALLER: You’ve been just so helpful. What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Sharonda, S-h-a-r-o-n-d-a.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thanks.

CALLER: Yeah.

CALLER: All right. Do you know if they would have to tell my parents? My friend told me that since I’ll be 14 in March that they would have to tell my parents I’m having an abortion.

CLINIC: You do have to have parental consent.

CALLER: Okay. Well, my boyfriend’s 22. Is there anything that he could do instead?

CLINIC: Nope. You’d have to go out of state. Let me give you a couple of phone numbers.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: I can give you a number for one in Dallas.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: It’s 214-373-1868.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, could I come there for a pregnancy test then?

CLINIC: Yes. You can walk in for those, and they’re $8.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, does anybody have to know that I was there?

CLINIC: No. You can come tomorrow for that if you’d like.

CALLER: It’s just my boyfriend doesn’t want anybody to know.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Well, if I come in for a pregnancy test, if it was negative, do you guys have birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Well, would you have to tell anybody that I was on birth control?

CLINIC: No. You can consent for yourself with that. And it would be $12 plus the cost of the pills, which is 13 a month.

CALLER: Okay. I just have so many questions. If I think of anything else, could I call and talk to you? What was your name?

CLINIC: You sure can. My name’s Amy.

CALLER: All right. Thanks.
