CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. This is Cara. How may I help you?
CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.
CLINIC: We do not.
CALLER: Do you know of any place that might?
CLINIC: Actually, they’re listed in the very front of your yellow pages under “abortion.”
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: They’re listed there for you.
CALLER: Well, like, my friend told me to just call you guys, but do you guys do pregnancy tests there?
CLINIC: Test we do, yes.
CALLER: Okay. Well, is it okay like if my boyfriend brings me because I can’t let my parents find out at all.
CLINIC: Um-hum. Yeah. You can come in. It’s just $8, and it’s a urine test.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Is there like an age requirement for that all? Like —
CLINIC: Not at all.
CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March, and that’s still okay?
CLINIC: Yep.
CALLER: You wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I was there?
CLINIC: Not unless you give us information that we would have to. But just if you just came in and wanted a test, no, not at all.
CALLER: What do you mean that you would have to?
CLINIC: Well, like if you told us your boyfriend was 30 or —
CALLER: Well, he’s not 30. He’s only 22.
CLINIC: Okay. If you come in and tell us that, we will probably have to report something like that.
CALLER: Like what would — report it to my parents or —
CLINIC: We would report it to Children and Family Services, and they would probably contact your parents.
CALLER: What would happen?
CLINIC: I’m not sure, but I know that’s a really big age difference.
CALLER: But we’re in love. We’re going to get married.
CLINIC: Okay. Well, like I said, if you come in your parents probably will be contacted as a result of that.
CALLER: Oh. But they — what can I do? They can’t find out.
CLINIC: Well, you can get a home test.
CALLER: Oh.
CLINIC: Or you can just come in by yourself and just get the test done.
CALLER: Like just have him drop me off, or what?
CLINIC: It’s up to you.
CALLER: Because I don’t have any other way to get there besides him.
CLINIC: Um-hum.
CALLER: So.
CLINIC: Yeah. I’m just letting you know, if you divulge that information to us we would have to act on it.
CALLER: Oh. Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Well, would I be able to get like birth control there?
CLINIC: If you have an exam done you could.
CALLER: Okay. So — and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I was on birth control?
CLINIC: Again, unless you gave us some information like we just talked about.
CALLER: Okay. All right. So just don’t say anything?
CLINIC: Well, I can’t tell you that. But if you told us that when you came in, we would have to act on it.
CALLER: Oh. Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Well, how could I get an abortion then if like I would get in trouble?
CLINIC: You can’t unless you have your parents’ permission.
CALLER: And there’s no way not to have them know?
CLINIC: Not that I’m aware of.
CALLER: All right. Well, okay.
CLINIC: Why don’t you do one step at a time? Why don’t you make sure you’re pregnant first and then go from there?
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: And then that way you can decide either way.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: So if you want to come in and get a test, we can start there.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: All right.
CALLER: Thanks.
CLINIC: Um-hum. Bye bye.
CALLER: Bye.
