CLINIC: Good morning. Planned Parenthood. May I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: You don’t? Do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: The Wilmington Women’s Center.

CALLER: Okay. Do you have that phone number, I guess?

CLINIC: No. I’d have to look it up in the phone book.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know — like my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: That’s North Carolina law, yes.

CALLER: Is there any way not to tell them, because like, like my parents can’t find out at all because like my boyfriend’s 22 and we’re going to get married and everything, but they just can’t find out because they hate him. They think he’s too old for me.

CLINIC: And you’re how old?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay. You would have to go through the judicial bypass system. You’d have to go through the court systems.

CALLER: What is that? Like what happens?

CLINIC: Well, in other words you would have to talk to a judge and he would have to say that it’s okay for you to make the decision.

CALLER: Oh. Well, does he ever say that it’s not okay or —

CLINIC: That I don’t know.

CALLER: Oh. Okay. Well, like would I have to get a lawyer or anything?

CLINIC: (sighs) I don’t know. I’m new to North Carolina which is why I don’t have the answers to your questions.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Call the Wilmington Women’s Center, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: They can give you a lot more information as to how you will go about that process.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, my friend just told me that, to call you guys, so.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: But do you guys do birth control there? Like say if I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys have birth control?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody if I was on birth control or anything?

CLINIC: No, we wouldn’t.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like if my boyfriend brought me in would that be all right?

CLINIC: Sure. That’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: That’s correct.

CALLER: Okay. You wouldn’t have to say anything about him or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right. Okay. Well, if I had any other questions could I talk to you, because you’re just nice, so I don’t want to —

CLINIC: Yes, that would be fine.

CALLER: Okay. Well, what was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Jay.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thank you.

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: Bye.
