(Dialing, phone ringing 4x)

CLINIC: Raleigh Women’s Health. How can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We do.

CALLER: Oh, okay. How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: 350 awake, 525 asleep, as long as you’re not more than 12 weeks.

CALLER: Well, how do you know how many weeks you are?

CLINIC: What was the first day of your last menstrual cycle?

CALLER: January 15th.

CLINIC: Hold for me.

(Pause)

CLINIC: Raleigh Women’s Health. How can I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was talking to someone else real quick, and I got —

CLINIC: Hold on.

(Pause)

CLINIC: What’s the first day of your last cycle again, hon?x

CALLER: January 15th.

CLINIC: Okay. Judging from that you are about eight weeks.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And that will be — your price is 350 and 525.

CALLER: Okay. I’m just kind of worried. Well, I’m going to be 14 on the 19th of this month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he hold enough to take care of everything, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, ma’am. (Unclear) boyfriend. And you’re a minor, so you’re going to need a parent with you. The only way around that is that you go to the courthouse and get a judicial bypass.

CALLER: What is that?

CLINIC: Where the magistrate will grant you the right to get the termination done.

CALLER: Okay. And they wouldn’t have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: Right. And I wouldn’t advise you to say anything about your boyfriend being 22, because that’s statutory rape.

CALLER: What do you mean? He’s not raping me. We’re in love. We’re going to get married.

CLINIC: Right. But I wouldn’t advise you to tell the magistrate that because he may not grant you that right knowing that.

CALLER: Oh, really? All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay. If I get that, I could come in there —

CLINIC: Without a parent, yeah.

CALLER: How much does it cost for that?

CLINIC: 350 awake and 525 asleep.

CALLER: No, like the judicial bypass.

CLINIC: You would need to go to the court system. I don’t know that there’s a charge. You can call down to the clerk of court and ask them what you would need to do to get a judicial bypass.

CALLER: Well, do they normally say that it’s all right, and they let you do it?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: Well, me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and he said he would pay cash for everything. But we don’t want anyone to know about us. If he was paying for it, would he have to sign anything or have his name on anything?

CLINIC: He’s going to have to sign you in if he brings you. He’s going to have to sign you in because we can’t do a procedure on you without a signature from someone. Now I mean, it doesn’t have to be him. It can be a friend of yours, anybody 18 or older. Okay?

CALLER: All right. So if he came in, then you wouldn’t tell anybody about him?

CLINIC: If he came with you?

CALLER: Right.

CLINIC: No, we wouldn’t discuss you or your visit with anyone at all, not without your permission. So even if your parents are trying to find out, we wouldn’t discuss it with them either as long as you have that judicial bypass.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: I haven’t had a pregnancy test yet. I just haven’t had my period for a while. Would you do it there first?

CLINIC: We can do one here for $15.

CALLER: Okay. How soon would I be able to come in to do that?

CLINIC: How soon could we see you?

CALLER: Yeah, for a pregnancy test.

CLINIC: Oh, we could see you today for that.

CALLER: Oh. How late are you guys there today?

CLINIC: Until about 6. If you decide that you want to come, just give us a call back so that we’ll know to expect you.

CALLER: Or if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control from you guys?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I was on birth control?

CLINIC: No, ma’am.

CALLER: Oh, all right. Well, let me talk to my boyfriend and see if we can come there tonight. What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Ladora (sp), but anyone you call would be able to help you.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: All right. Thank you.

CLINIC: Uh-huh. Bye bye.

(dialing sound) (ringing 2X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Oh. Well, do you know if you have to be a specific age for that? Like I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: You have to be over 18 unless if you’re under 18 you have to have parental permission.

CALLER: Oh. Is there any way to get around that? Because like I can’t tell my parents at all because — well, my boyfriend’s 22 and we’re in love and everything but my parents hate him because they think he’s too old for me. So they just can’t find out.

CLINIC: The only other way around it is something called judicial bypass. That’s where you have to go speak with a judge.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Generally it’s in private but —

CALLER: Do I need to get a lawyer for that?

CLINIC: No. You just go speak privately with the judge. He’ll talk to you about it. If he feels that you’re able to make up your own decision without your parents’ knowledge then he can give you a legal document saying that someone, a provider can perform the procedure without your parents’ acknowledgement.

CALLER: Well, does he ever say no?

CLINIC: I’m not sure. I haven’t heard of him saying no, but I don’t know a lot of people that go through that process, so. What county do you live in?

CALLER: I live in Sanford.

CLINIC: Okay. Is that a county though? Sanford? It’s not a county.

CALLER: No. We just moved here. It’s a town. I’m not real sure about everything, but.

CLINIC: You’re not sure what county it’s in?

CALLER: Yeah. We just moved here, so.

CLINIC: Okay. Hold on. (pause) Ma’am?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: We’re just trying to figure out what county you’re in because that depends on what number I give you for what place you should call for the judicial bypass.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So if you can just hold on one more moment, okay? (pause)

(dialing sound) (ringing 2X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was put on hold and it cut me off.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: But I was asking about judicial bypass, so they were getting a number for me.

CLINIC: Right. We’re trying to now call the government office, department.

CALLER: Okay. Well, I was actually wondering like how much it costs to have an abortion.

CLINIC: It’s $330 for the surgical procedure. You know how far along you are?

CALLER: Well, no. Like well, my last period was like the second week in December.

CLINIC: Okay. Was it normal as far as you know?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: So we’ll just go with the roundabout date of the 15th being the first day of your last menstrual period, or do you know the first day of your last menstrual period?

CALLER: It was like around the 15th.

CLINIC: Okay. That being the case, you’re probably right now in your 9th week.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So the surgical procedure that is your option if you wanted to have an abortion right now.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And as I said, here it is $330.

CALLER: Okay. So if I got the judicial bypass you wouldn’t have to tell anybody at all?

CLINIC: Correct.

CALLER: Okay. Would it be all right like if my boyfriend brings me?

CLINIC: Yeah. That’s no problem.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like my friend said that I had to tell you guys that he’s 22. And I’ll be 14 in March, so like is there like I don’t understand why she said we have to tell you guys.

CLINIC: I think she just might have been concerned about what would be perceived as statutory rape.

CALLER: What — I don’t understand what you mean. What’s that?

CLINIC: That’s where when someone who’s underage has intercourse with someone who is over the age of 18.

CALLER: But we’re in love. We’re going to get married. I don’t understand.

CLINIC: It’s what the law is.

CALLER: Well, could he get in trouble or anything?

CLINIC: If someone pressed charges, yes he could.

CALLER: Well, would you guys have to press charges if he brings me in? Like I don’t have any other way to get there.

CLINIC: No. No. No, ma’am. There’s no reason to press charges at all.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: She must might have concerned about that.

CALLER: Oh. Well, you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, ma’am.

CALLER: Okay. So it’s all right if he brings me and everything?

CLINIC: Yes, ma’am.

CALLER: Well, what if they ask about him?

CLINIC: They’re not. That’s not our concern, ma’am. Our concern is taking care of you. It has nothing to do with who you’re in love with or not in love with.

CALLER: Okay. Well, he was also wondering if we could get birth control. Like say that I wasn’t pregnant. Is it okay to get birth control there?

CLINIC: If you weren’t pregnant?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Do you not know?

CALLER: Well, not really.

CLINIC: Have you taken a pregnancy test?

CALLER: Well, I took a home pregnancy test over the weekend and it said it was positive.

CLINIC: Okay. Then it’s extremely — it’s very, very rare to get false positives, so I’m going to go with the presumption that you are pregnant.

CALLER: Like are they ever wrong or anything?

CLINIC: They very, very rarely. Were you taking any sort of street drugs?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Were you taking aspirin at all?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay. Those are mainly the things that usually throw it off at all. Other than that it’s usually extremely reliable.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So hold on one more second. The woman who is calling —

CALLER: Like after the abortion is over, I can get birth control?

CLINIC: Yes, ma’am. That’s no problem at all.

CALLER: But you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I’m on birth control or anything?

CLINIC: Not at all. Um-um.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay. Hold on one second.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: (pause) Ma’am?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Okay. We actually right in front of us do not have — you’re in Lee County, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: We do not in front of us have the number for judicial bypass for Lee County.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: But what I’m going to do is give you the number for Orange County since that’s where we’re in.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And call there and ask them specifically, do you know the number for judicial bypass for Lee County?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Are you ready for the number?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: It’s 967-9251, Extension 2201.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: And it’s judicial bypass?

CLINIC: Yes, ma’am.

CALLER: Okay. Well, is it okay like if — I need to talk to my boyfriend and see, but is it okay if I call you back if he has any questions?

CLINIC: That’s no problem at all.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Evan.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: You’re welcome. Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.

CLINIC: Good morning. Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: No, we do not.

CALLER: Oh. Do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: Are you in the Raleigh area?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Raleigh Women’s Health does them. Their number is 783-0444.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know, like, if there’s a specific age for that or anything? Like I’ll be 14 in March. Is it all right to have an abortion then?

CLINIC: In the state of North Carolina if you’re under 18 you have to have parental consent.

CALLER: Oh. Is there any way not to do that?

CLINIC: Or you can do the judicial bypass.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Go in front of a judge and plead your case.

CALLER: And they wouldn’t have to tell my parents or anything?

CLINIC: No. But it’s up to the judge whether you can get a termination without your parents’ consent.

CALLER: Well, do I have to get a lawyer for that or anything?

CLINIC: No. Hang on just one second.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Ma’am?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: This is the number you need to call at the courthouse. It’s 755-4109.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And they can tell you exactly where you need to go in the courthouse and more about the procedure.

CALLER: Okay. Well, so I don’t have to get a lawyer or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Or you don’t know?

CLINIC: No, you don’t have to get a lawyer.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like do you know if like do you guys do pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Okay. Well, how much does that cost?

CLINIC: There’s no charge.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, is it all right like if my boyfriend brings me? Like he’s 22. He said he was going to take care of everything, so.

CLINIC: Yeah, that’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like you don’t have to be a specific age to get a pregnancy test either?

CLINIC: No. There’s no law in North Carolina about family planning things.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, like my boyfriend — or my friend actually said that you guys have to know about my boyfriend when I come in. Is that —

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Because like —

CLINIC: We don’t need to know anything about your boyfriend.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Why would she say that then? I don’t understand.

CLINIC: Who said that?

CALLER: My friend.

CLINIC: She obviously — I don’t know. Because we don’t need to know anything about him.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, he was also wondering about birth control. Do you guys do that there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do. What you need to do is get a full GYN exam, and once that is done we can give you birth control here.

CALLER: Okay. But you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I’m on birth control?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay. Well, if I — I need to talk to my boyfriend, but is it cool if I talk to you later if he has any other questions that I didn’t think of?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Melinda.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Uh-huh. Bye.

CALLER: Bye.

(dialing sound) (ringing 1X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood Durham.

CALLER: Hi.

CLINIC: Hi.

CALLER: I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We do in our Chapel Hill office.

CALLER: Okay. Do you have the number for that?

CLINIC: I can actually explain everything to you and make your appointment if you’d like.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: We’re affiliated.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: We have to have parental consent.

(hinting) So you can have a letter from a guardian with their signature and a phone number that we call.

CALLER: Well, is there any way not to do that? Because they like hate my boyfriend because — like he’s 22, and they think he’s too old for me, so I don’t, I can’t tell them at all.

CLINIC: Okay. We can, I can give you the number for the judicial bypass.

CALLER: Uh-huh. What is that?

CLINIC: You can call them, and you can kind of get some information from them. Are you in Durham or Orange County?

CALLER: I’m actually in Creedmoor. I don’t know what the county is, but.

CLINIC: I don’t know what the county is either. Hold on.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: (pause) Okay, so I’m going to call a number really quick and see if I can find out. Hold on.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: (pause) I found out it’s in Granville County, and so this is the clerk of court number. Maybe they could help you out and tell you kind of what to do. If not, give us a call back and we’ll try to work with you in terms of how we can figure something out.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know if like the judge ever says no or anything?

CLINIC: I have no idea.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So it’s 693-2649.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Do you guys — like will they have to tell anybody about my boyfriend or anything?

CLINIC: I have no — I don’t even know. How old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: And he’s 22.

CLINIC: Okay. Do you know when your, the first day of your last menstrual period was?

CALLER: It was like the second week in December, probably like the 15th or so.

CLINIC: 15th. Hold on. Okay. So what I would suggest is, I’d — you know what?

CALLER: Um-hum.

CLINIC: Let me — is there a phone number where I can give you a call back?

CALLER: No. I’m at my friend’s house and her mom’s here, so if — she would answer the phone.

CLINIC: Okay. So here’s what I’ll do. I’ll give the Granville Clerk of Court a call and see, you know, what the procedure would be and, you know, ask about the age difference between you and your boyfriend and, you know, how that works out.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And then if you want to give me a call back today —

CALLER: Well, would they have to say anything, or why do you have to tell them? Like what would happen?

CLINIC: I’m just trying to find out for you, see.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: So like, you know, you don’t have to call and ask, unless you want and ask yourself.

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay. So I could call them, and you could give me a call back. I’m not sure how long it would take, but if you just — you know, we’re here until 5:00 today. My name is Agnes, so you can give me a call back, and then I can let you know what they say.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And maybe we could try to figure things out from there.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like say that I wasn’t pregnant. Do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yeah. Um-hum.

CALLER: And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I’m on birth control or anything?

CLINIC: Oh, no, not at all. We are not allowed to tell anybody anything about you when you come here except for you without your authorization.

CALLER: Okay. And you’re not going to tell anybody about my boyfriend or anything?

CLINIC: No. Um-um.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay. So I’ll call you back.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: All right. Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.

(phone clicks)

(dial sound) (ringing 1X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood Durham.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wanting to talk to Agnes.

CLINIC: Okay. Hang on a second.

CLINIC: This is Agnes. How can I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was the one that called earlier wondering about the judicial bypass.

CLINIC: Sure. Okay. So this is what I found out. In terms of your boyfriend and you scheduling an appointment here, we don’t do anything about that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You know, just don’t bring it to our attention. You know, don’t highlight it or anything like that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: We don’t ask. Like a no ask, no tell kind of thing. In terms of the Clerk of Court, I called them and found out that what you’d have to do is, you’d have to meet with the Clerk of Court and fill out some paperwork.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And so I can give you the number to call and set up an appointment. Or I can call for you and set up an appointment. They said that they could do it like today, Tuesday or Wednesday like around 3:00 or 4:00. Would that work for you?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend and see when he can take me, but would they agree to it, you think?

CLINIC: I don’t know. That’s what you’re going to have to — you know, you fill out some paperwork and you talk to them.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So — but you just have to set up an appointment to go in and get paperwork because, you know, everything is so confidential that, you know, you’d like go into the office and they would take you into a different office so no one would overhear anything and stuff like that. They keep it really private.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And then you just fill out some paperwork and talk to one of two people, and then you could find out what to do after that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: So do you want me to give you the number so you can call and set up an appointment?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. So it’s —

CALLER: Well, like do you know if it’s all right if my boyfriend takes me or —

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: I mean, I think that’s fine. I think, you know, that might be something that you want to ask.

CALLER: Like when I call for the appointment?

CLINIC: No, no, no. For when you call for the appointment, all you have to do is say, I’m calling to make an appointment for a judicial bypass.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: That’s ALL you need to say.

CALLER: But it’s okay if my boyfriend takes me, because I don’t know how else I would get there.

CLINIC: Yeah. Yeah. And here’s the thing what I would do like about your boyfriend. I just, I wouldn’t bring it up.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Like don’t bring it up unless you really need to.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? If they ask, then you know you might have to bring it up, but I wouldn’t go in there and say, hey listen, I’m 13 and my boyfriend’s 22.

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay? So I would just do what kind of — you know, do what you need to do. Ask questions if you’re confused. You can call me back if you want and you can tell me kind of like what happened and

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: — stuff like that. I wouldn’t bring it up unless you’re specifically asked to.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So yeah, when you call for the appointment all you need to do is just call and say, I’m calling to set up an appointment for a judicial bypass. And the two ladies that usually do it are Mrs. Oberton (sp) or Mrs. Allen (sp).

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? And the phone number is 693-2649.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And then, you know, if they give it you then you should just call us back, and then I can go ahead and set up an appointment for you.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: And your name was Agnes?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: All right. Okay. Thanks.

CLINIC: You’re welcome.

CLINIC: Good morning. Planned Parenthood. May I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: You don’t? Do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: The Wilmington Women’s Center.

CALLER: Okay. Do you have that phone number, I guess?

CLINIC: No. I’d have to look it up in the phone book.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know — like my friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: That’s North Carolina law, yes.

CALLER: Is there any way not to tell them, because like, like my parents can’t find out at all because like my boyfriend’s 22 and we’re going to get married and everything, but they just can’t find out because they hate him. They think he’s too old for me.

CLINIC: And you’re how old?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay. You would have to go through the judicial bypass system. You’d have to go through the court systems.

CALLER: What is that? Like what happens?

CLINIC: Well, in other words you would have to talk to a judge and he would have to say that it’s okay for you to make the decision.

CALLER: Oh. Well, does he ever say that it’s not okay or —

CLINIC: That I don’t know.

CALLER: Oh. Okay. Well, like would I have to get a lawyer or anything?

CLINIC: (sighs) I don’t know. I’m new to North Carolina which is why I don’t have the answers to your questions.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Call the Wilmington Women’s Center, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: They can give you a lot more information as to how you will go about that process.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, my friend just told me that, to call you guys, so.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: But do you guys do birth control there? Like say if I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys have birth control?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody if I was on birth control or anything?

CLINIC: No, we wouldn’t.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like if my boyfriend brought me in would that be all right?

CLINIC: Sure. That’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: That’s correct.

CALLER: Okay. You wouldn’t have to say anything about him or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right. Okay. Well, if I had any other questions could I talk to you, because you’re just nice, so I don’t want to —

CLINIC: Yes, that would be fine.

CALLER: Okay. Well, what was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Jay.

(dialing sounds) (ringing 2X)

CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. (Doyle?).

CALLER: Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Well, how much does that cost?

CLINIC: How many weeks are you?

CALLER: Well, I don’t really know. Like, well, my last period was like the second week in December.

CLINIC: Let me see. Second week in December, and today we’re the 18th. You’re 9 weeks. You’re in the range of $285, ma’am.

CALLER: Okay. Well, like do you have to be a specific age to have an abortion? Like I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Well, you need to bring a parent to sign your consent.

CALLER: Is there any way not to bring a parent, because I can’t tell them at all. Like they can’t find out because they hate my boyfriend. They think he’s too old for me. Like, well he’s 22. And I don’t understand, but they just can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Well, okay. Well, if you hold on I’ll give you that information. Please hold.

CALLER: All right.

(pause)

CLINIC: Ma’am, you need to call this number right here. It’s 761-2384.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And you just call and give them your information. I think what will happen is, you’ll have to go — you have to make an appointment.

CALLER: Who are they? What is it?

CLINIC: It’s just a permunal (sic) rights, permunal — I can’t pronounce it. (laughs) Counsel. You’re giving away your parent rights.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: What all does that involve?

CLINIC: You just go before a judge and just ask him, you know —

CALLER: Do I have to get a lawyer for that or anything?

CLINIC: I don’t know. You just have to call that number and find out.

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know if the judge ever says no or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: No?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, do you guys do like birth control there or anything?

CLINIC: We do.

CALLER: Okay. Because my boyfriend was wanting to know about that. But like if I was on birth control you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay. Would it be all right?

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: Like is it all right if my boyfriend brings me, or whatever?

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: Because my parents can’t find out about that either.

CLINIC: That’s fine, long as you have that paper signing over your rights you should be fine.

CALLER: Okay. So nobody has to know about my boyfriend or anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: You call that number, okay?

CALLER: Okay. Thanks.
