CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. May I help you?

CALLER: Yeah. Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: No? Do you know where I could call?

CLINIC: Sure. Can you hold on just for a minute?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay.

(Pause)

CLINIC: Okay. We refer a lot of people to two doctors– one in Syracuse and one in Binghamton. The first one that’s in Syracuse, it’s 1-800-439-1105. And the other one is Dr. Cousins (sp), which is in Binghamton. And that’s 1-800-676-9011. And you’ll have to call and give them information over the phone.

CALLER: Okay. Do you know if I have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion?

CLINIC: No. Do you have insurance at all?

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend said he would pay for it.

CLINIC: Okay. Because it will go by cash or whatever. No, I don’t think that’s an issue at all.

CALLER: My parents can’t find out at all, because my boyfriend is 22. And we’re going to get married. But my parents hate him because they think he’s too old for me.

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay. Well, that’s an issue (chuckling). He is older. That is a legal issue. That could be.

CALLER: What do you mean?

CLINIC: Well, because you’re considered not an adult, and he’s definitely considered an adult.

CALLER: Yeah?

CLINIC: But any of that information — that information will stay there. So that’s not an issue.

CALLER: So nobody will find out or anything?

CLINIC: No. All that information, just like we are, confidential. So even if someone tried to call or get information, they would not give it to them.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: But I would definitely give them a call, okay?

CALLER: Okay. Well, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we can. But they might want to start you on something. So when you’re done with that, you need to call and make an appointment with us.

CALLER: Okay. And you guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody about birth control either?

CLINIC: No. No information. The only thing I tell people, is when you come here and you see people in the waiting room, that’s something we can’t control.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: But any other information or anybody calling regarding any of your business, none of that information’s given.

CALLER: If my boyfriend has questions, can I call you back and ask you?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Amy.

CALLER: Amy?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: All right. Okay.

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: Okay, thanks.

CLINIC: You’re welcome.

CALLER: Bye.

CLINIC: Bye.
