(Dialing, phone ringing)

CLINIC: Good morning, Planned Parenthood Riverhead. This is Agottie.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering, do you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Hold on one moment.

RECORDING: — 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lock-in hours are available. There are 13 Planned Parenthood centers in Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam Counties. You can call 1-800-230-PLAN to be connected directly to the center nearest you. You can also visit our Web site at www.plannedparenthood.org.

Our clients count on our caring staff for annual check-ups, birth control information, family planning supplies, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and HIV, pregnancy testing and options counseling, mid-life services and emergency contraception. Abortion services are available at our Smithtown Medical Center. In addition to surgical abortion services, we offer Mifepristone, formerly known as RU486, as a medical abortion option. Services are confidential for clients of all ages. In order to ensure that our clients receive the highest quality confidential services, we request that all clients and visitors present photo id’s when entering our facilities. Thank you for choosing us as your healthcare provider.

Planned Parenthood fees are on a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. Special consideration is made regarding the income for teens 17 and under. Testing and counseling for HIV are always free to our established clients. We accept Medicaid, major credit cards and several health insurance plans. For more information, please, just ask.

Good news for Medicaid participants. New York State law says that you can come to Planned Parenthood for family planning services, no matter which Medicaid managed care plan you choose.

If you had unprotected sex, you still have 72 hours to prevent an unintended pregnancy. Please request more information on emergency contraception when we return to the line.

Prenatal care is now available at our Huntington, Patchogue, Midtown and Riverhead medical centers. Planned Parenthood offers many community workshops. Topics include sexuality, parenting concerns, puberty awareness, and managing mid-life.

CLINIC: Hello. Sorry about the hold. How may I help you?

CALLER: I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Not in Riverhead. We do them in Smithtown. Have you had a pregnancy test with Planned Parenthood yet?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Because that’s the first step, that we take a pregnancy test to confirm that you’re pregnant. And we do options counseling. And if you choose to terminate, then we send you to Smithtown.

CALLER: Okay. Do you have to be a certain age for that?

CLINIC: Nope. There’s no age restriction here. How old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: That’s fine.

CALLER: And they wouldn’t tell my parents or anything?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: The problem is, I can’t tell my parents. My boyfriend’s he’s 22, and we’re going to get married and everything. But like my parents hate him because they think he’s too old for me. I don’t know. They just can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: If they find out, it’s not from us. It would be from you or your boyfriend.

CALLER: Okay. So they wouldn’t tell anybody at all?

CLINIC: No, no one at all. If your mom called us and said, when is my daughter’s appointment, we wouldn’t even admit that you are a patient here.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: We would say, we don’t know. We don’t know who she is. We just say we don’t give out any information on any patients over the phone.

CALLER: Say I wasn’t pregnant. Is there any way you guys could do birth control?

CLINIC: Yes. We could get you started on the pill or any other method that you wanted. We’ll explain to you all the different methods, and you can pick one that’s right for you.

CALLER: Is it all right if my boyfriend comes and picks up the pills?

CLINIC: You have to give us a letter saying it’s okay. But the first visit we need to see you.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Do you want to come in and have a pregnancy test?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to talk to him. Is it okay if I cal you back?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: My name is Agotti.

CALLER: Okay, okay. All right. Thanks

CLINIC: Thanks. Bye.
