CALLER: Okay. Well, can I ask a couple of questions?

CLINIC: Okay, sure. I’ll put you on hold for one second, okay?

CALLER: Okay?

CLINIC: Hello?

CALLER: Hi.

CLINIC: Sorry to keep you waiting.

Go ahead. You had a few questions for me?

CALLER: Yeah. Well, my friend told me that you guys have to — my parents have to be told before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: I’m sorry. Say that again.

CALLER: My friend told me that you guys have to tell my parents before I can have an abortion. Is that true?

CLINIC: No. Everything here is confidential.

CALLER: Okay. So nobody would have to know or anything?

CLINIC: No. But we don’t do that here. We don’t do the procedure, the actual procedure, here.

CALLER: Oh. The problem is, I can’t tell my parents, and they can’t find out. My boyfriend’s 22. And we’re planning to get married, but my parents absolutely hate him. They think he’s too old for me. And there’s just no way they can find out that we’re having sex.

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’m going to be 14 in March.

CLINIC: Okay. And are you close by to us? Do you want to come to this clinic —

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: — and be checked?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Okay. Do you want to schedule an appointment for tomorrow? We’re opened tomorrow from 3 to 9.

CALLER: Oh, well, I would have to talk to my boyfriend to see.

CLINIC: You want to call me back with that information?

CALLER: Well, yeah. I got to talk to him, but he doesn’t get off work until like 5:00. So I can’t talk to him until like then. But —

CLINIC: Okay. So what do you want to do? Do you want to schedule an appointment anyway?

CALLER: Yep.

CLINIC: You want to schedule an appointment?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You’ve never been here before?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Where are you located right now?

CALLER: I’m in Morristown.

CLINIC: Morristown?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

CLINIC: Okay. You know we’re in Englewood?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: This is the Planned Parenthood of Englewood, New Jersey.

CALLER: Yeah. I just don’t want to go anywhere where anyone will see me.

CLINIC: Okay, no problem.

CALLER: Is Christine.

CLINIC: Christine. Last name?

CALLER: Smith.

CLINIC: Okay. All right. Hold on one second. Let me get the book so I can write you down, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay. So you want to come tomorrow. What time do you want to come in tomorrow?

CALLER: Afternoon, I guess.

CLINIC: After what?

CALLER: In the afternoon.

CLINIC: 5:00 is good?

CALLER: I’d have to call my boyfriend.

CLINIC: 5:45?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to call him and see.

CLINIC: Okay. So I’ll put you down for 5:45. If there is any changes then you call me back.

CALLER: Okay. What was your name?

CLINIC: Seline (sp).

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So Christine Smith.

CALLER: Well, actually I have another question. If I wasn’t pregnant after you guys like —

CLINIC: We’ll run a pregnancy test on you.

CALLER: Okay. If I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control from you guys?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: And you still wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. Everything is confidential.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: A number where I can reach you?

CALLER: Well, I — I don’t know.

CLINIC: A friend’s number or anything where I can reach you in case any — I mean, I’m not going to call you. I’ll wait for you to call me to confirm the appointment on that hour, okay?

CALLER: Okay. Well, I’ll just call you back. Is that okay?

CLINIC: That’s fine.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.
