CLINIC: Tri-Rivers Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do you know of anybody that does?

CLINIC: Um-hmm. Where are you located?

CALLER: I’m in Queen City.

CLINIC: Okay. Columbia’s probably going to be the closest.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Do you want me to give you that number?

CALLER: Yes, please.

CLINIC: Okay. Hold on just a second. That is 573-875-4177.

CALLER: Okay. Is it all right if I ask you a couple of questions real quick?

CLINIC: Sure.

CALLER: It’s just I’m scared, and I don’t know what to do. My friend told me that — I’ll be 14 in March, and she said that you guys would have to tell my parents I’m getting an abortion. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it, and nobody would have to know?

CLINIC: I don’t know. You’d have to talk with Columbia.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: I don’t know what their stipulations are.

CALLER: Well, I’m worried about all this because my parents don’t like him, and they think he’s too old for me. But I don’t understand that. He’s only 22. I’m just scared. Because my last period was December 14th, and I don’t know. Could I get a pregnancy test there?

CLINIC: Have you already taken one?

CALLER: No, not yet.

CLINIC: Are your periods usually normal?

CALLER: Usually.

CLINIC: Yeah. We can do one of those here. But if it’s been two months since you’ve had a period, then I’d say that’s pretty accurate.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: Yeah. When was your last one?

CALLER: It was December 14th.

CLINIC: That was the first day of it?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. Well, that’s going to put you about — you’re about 11 weeks almost.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: They’ll do one there too. Wherever you decide to go, they’ll run one.

CALLER: Oh. Well, my friend just told me to go to you guys because that’s where she went.

CLINIC: We can run one. We can do that. You haven’t taken like a home test?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Yeah, we can run one. That’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. Well, would you guys have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No. You’re in the city? You do whatever you want.

CALLER: Well, I just really don’t want anyone to see me or anything. I want my boyfriend to be there with me. Is that okay?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: Yeah?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: He’s just worried that you guys would ask a whole bunch of questions about him.

CLINIC: Oh, no. No. We wouldn’t do anything like that. When would you like to come in?

CALLER: I don’t know. I’d have to call my boyfriend to see.

CLINIC: Okay. Why don’t you just do that, and then call us back.

CALLER: Okay. Do you have any hours tomorrow?

CLINIC: Uh-huh. You can come in anytime tomorrow and just have a test.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: That will be fine. If you want to call us and tell us what time, and we can write it down, whatever you want to do.

CALLER: If the pregnancy test ends up being negative, could I have birth control?

CLINIC: Can you?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: We would have to make you an appointment to have an exam.

CALLER: How old do you have to be for that, to get birth control?

CLINIC: You’re fine. Your age is fine.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: If I had any other questions, could I call you? What was your name?

CLINIC: Sure. My name is Terry, but you can speak with anyone in the clinic. That would be fine. Or if you come in tomorrow, we can sit down and talk to you too. Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: All right.

CALLER: Thank you.

CLINIC: You’re welcome. Bye bye.
