CLINIC: Hi. Can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see, do you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: How much does that cost?

CLINIC: It’s $370.

CALLER: Okay. Well, I’m just kind of scared. I’ll be 14 later on this month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: How old are you?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 later on this month.

CLINIC: Okay. And have you been here before?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Okay. Hold on a minute, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

(Pause)

CLINIC: Hi.

CALLER: Hi.

CLINIC: I’m sorry to keep you holding. I actually need to talk to a nurse about that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Do you want to come in and talk to somebody?

CALLER: Well, I just was wanting to ask questions first.

CLINIC: Okay. Can we call you back?

CALLER: Well, I’m at my friend’s house. And if you called, her mom would pick up the phone.

CLINIC: Well, I can just say Leann’s (sp) calling for you.

CALLER: I don’t want to get any calls here.

CLINIC: Oh, you don’t. Okay. Do you want to call back then?

CALLER: Yeah. Who shall I ask for?

CLINIC: Just ask for Leann.

CALLER: Do you guys do pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: Yeah. Yep.

CALLER: I’m just scared because I haven’t had my period since the day after Christmas, so I’m worried.

CLINIC: Oh, you have not?

CALLER: Right.

CLINIC: Can you come in today?

CALLER: I think so. But I would have to call my boyfriend to see if he could take me.

CLINIC: All right. You need to call him. Because we close at 4, and you need to come in around — if you can, come in here around 1:30.

CALLER: Would you have to tell my parents though?

CLINIC: No. I don’t know about the whole abortion thing. I need to talk to a nurse about that.

CALLER: But about a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: But it’s all right if you’re coming in for a pregnancy test.

CALLER: Well, if it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control today too?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: But would anybody have to know about birth control?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Right.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and we don’t want a whole bunch of people to know about us. But he said he would pay for everything. Would he have to sign anything?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Okay? So try to get in here at 1:30. Call me back and see if you can get in.

CALLER: Okay. And what was your name again?

CLINIC: Leann.

CALLER: Leann. All right. Thanks.

CLINIC: You’re welcome. Bye.

CALLER: Bye.
