CALLER: Hi. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: Do you know of any place that does?

CLINIC: Yeah. Indianapolis and Bloomington.

CALLER: Do you have the phone number for that?

CLINIC: Um-hum. Okay, the one in Bloomington — are you calling from Indiana?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay, the one in Bloomington is 800-828-7525.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And then the one in Indianapolis is 800-352-1901.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, like do you have to be a specific age for that? Like I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: You’ll be what?

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: You don’t have to be a specific age, but you do have to have parental consent.

CALLER: Oh. Well, my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just sign whatever papers they need?

CLINIC: No. They need parental consent. He’s not your parent.

CALLER: Okay. Well, is there any way not to tell my parents, because they can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Not in Indiana. No.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: No, there isn’t. Not in Indiana. Indiana law requires.

CALLER: Well, what could I do then?

CLINIC: I’m not sure. You might have to look at going out of state.

CALLER: Like which state do you think?

CLINIC: Maybe Illinois.

CALLER: Okay. And you don’t think they’d have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: I’m not sure. I don’t know Illinois law. At one time they didn’t. It could have changed.

CALLER: Well, could I come in to where you’re at to get a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: Oh, yeah. You can come in and get a pregnancy test.

CALLER: Would you have to tell anybody that I was getting a pregnancy test?

CLINIC: No. No. No. That’s confidential. The cost of the test is $5.

CALLER: Okay. Well, is it all right like if my boyfriend brings me and everything, if he’s there?

CLINIC: Oh, yeah, that’s no problem. You can come in and get a birth control method without parental consent, but to have an abortion you have to have parental consent.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: So you’re saying, you said if I wasn’t pregnant I could get birth control there?

CLINIC: Um-hum.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Yes, you can. Have you had a pregnancy test yet?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: No? I suggest you have a pregnancy test. And then when you come there’s a paper that we can give you that will list all of the abortion clinics.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: And the test, cost of your test is $5. If you were coming today we would ask that you be here no later than 4:30.

CALLER: Oh. Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend and see. Could I call you back? What was your name?

CLINIC: Oh, well, you don’t have to call me back.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: You don’t have to — it’s not an appointment. It’s a walk-in service, and if you can get in today before 4:30 all you have to do is show up.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Otherwise, tomorrow we’re here from 10:30 until 6:30.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Now my name’s Silver, okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: All righty?

CALLER: All right, thanks.

CLINIC: Uh-huh. Bye.

CALLER: Bye.
