CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. How can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We do.

CALLER: Well, do you know how much it cost?

CLINIC: It depends on a couple of things. Can I get the first day of your last period?

CALLER: I think it was December 14th.

CLINIC: December 14th?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. Right now you’re eligible for our surgical services. You can choose to be awake or asleep. Did you have public aid or private insurance?

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend said he would pay cash for it.

CLINIC: Okay. It’s 330 to be awake and 405 to be asleep.

CALLER: My friend said that you guys have to tell my parents, and they have to sign some stuff. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he sign that?

CLINIC: You don’t have to any consent.

CALLER: Okay. Even if I’ll be 14 in March, you guys don’t have to —

CLINIC: No, we don’t.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? Did you want to set up an appointment?

CALLER: Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend to see when he can get off work to take me.

CLINIC: Okay. Our next available appointment is next Tuesday.

CALLER: Okay. Could I ask you a quick question?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Do you guys do pregnancy tests there?

CLINIC: We recommend you take a home pregnancy test before you come in just because we have to do the ultra sound when you come in. So for some reason if you’re not pregnant, you have to pay for the ultra sound. Home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate.

CALLER: Oh, really?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Well, if I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys have birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, we do, upstairs in the clinic, yes.

CALLER: Would they have to say anything, that I was on birth control?

CLINIC: To your parents?

CALLER: Well, to anybody at all?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right. I wanted my boyfriend to be there with me. Is that all right?

CLINIC: I’m sorry. I couldn’t hear you.

CALLER: I wanted my boyfriend to be there with me. Is that all right?

CLINIC: That’s fine. The only this is he can’t come in for the procedure with you and the recovery. Okay?

CALLER: Okay. But could he come to the waiting room?

CLINIC: Um-hmm.

CALLER: Oh, okay. He’s just worried because he doesn’t want anybody to say anything about him. My parents can’t find out at all —

CLINIC: Okay.

CALLER: — because they just hate him. They just think he’s too old for me, so I don’t know. So it’s all right if he’s there, and you guys wouldn’t have to say anything?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Well, if I had any other questions, could I call you? What was your name?

CLINIC: You can talk to anyone when you call.

CALLER: Oh, all right.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Thank you.
