CLINIC: Savannah Medical Clinic.
CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there?
CLINIC: Yes, we do.
CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know how much it costs?
CLINIC: 8 to 12 weeks with sedation is $380.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: If you wanted to be awake it’s $320. Anything after 12 weeks the cost does go up, and we only do our procedures on Tuesday and Thursday by appointment only.
CALLER: Okay. Well, how do you know how far you are?
CLINIC: We go by the beginning date of your last normal period.
CALLER: Oh. Well, that was January 3.
CLINIC: Okay. That’s putting you approximately about 9 weeks right now.
CALLER: Okay. So well, it’s just my problem is like I’m going to be 14 later on this month and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?
CLINIC: No. If you’re 17 or under you’d have to have parental consent in the state of Georgia.
CALLER: Oh. Well, is there any way not to have to tell my parents?
CLINIC: No, because they would have to sign for you.
CALLER: Oh. So I’d have to tell my parents?
CLINIC: Uh-huh, because one of them would have to come with you.
CALLER: But I can’t tell my parents at all. I mean, is there any place else that I could go?
CLINIC: No, because like I said, in the state of Georgia — I’m not sure about South Carolina or Florida. I mean, I don’t know the laws you know, there, but like I said, in the state of Georgia 17 and under you have to have parental consent.
CALLER: Oh. Well, it’s just my boyfriend said that he would pay cash for everything. But like —
CLINIC: It still doesn’t matter.
CALLER: Okay. Well, so, but could I come in there for a pregnancy test just to see if I was pregnant?
CLINIC: Um-hum.
CALLER: But would you have to tell anybody then?
CLINIC: No.
CALLER: Oh. Okay. Well, how much does it cost for a pregnancy test?
CLINIC: $2 if you’re 6 weeks or over at least or $10 that will pick up from 10 to 14 days.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: And we do them walk-in basis 9:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.
CALLER: Okay. And it would be all right if my boyfriend was there with me?
CLINIC: Um-hum.
CALLER: Okay. Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control though?
CLINIC: Umm — (pause) — you would have to make an appointment to have a pap and pelvic done.
CALLER: Okay. How much does that cost?
CLINIC: It’s $60.
CALLER: Okay. But would anybody have to know if I was on birth control though?
CLINIC: Hold on just a minute, okay? I’m, even with that I do believe you’d have to have somebody, but hold on. Okay?
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: (pause) Okay. This is what you need to do, okay?
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: You need — there is a teen clinic that you can go to.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Let me give you their telephone number, okay?
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: It’s 651-2384.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: And they should be able to help you and all that kind of stuff do the, you know, possibly be able to do the pap and the pelvic and everything else and get you on birth control pills without your parents knowing.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay? But I’m not for sure now, okay? But you need to call them and find out.
CALLER: Okay. Well, if I could get —
CLINIC: I mean, you can still come here for a pregnancy test.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: You can still do that.
CALLER: Do I need to make an appointment for that or —
CLINIC: No. That’s walk-in.
CALLER: If I had any other questions could I call and talk to you? What was your name?
CLINIC: My name is Dana.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: You can call me back if you run into some problems. Okay?
CALLER: All right. Thank you.
CLINIC: You’re welcome.
CALLER: Bye.
CLINIC: Bye bye.
