CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: No, we don’t. But if you’ll hold on just one moment I’ll give you some phone numbers of some places.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? Hold on, please. (pause) Okay, thanks for holding. The first place that we have is the Atlanta Surgi Center. The telephone number is 404-892-8608. The second place is the Atlanta Women’s Medical Center. And that is 404-257-0057. The third place is the Feminist Women’s Health Center. That telephone number is 404-874-7551. And then another place is Northside Women’s Clinic, and that’s 770-455-4210. And these are all in Atlanta.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do you know — like I’m just really worried because like — well like my friend told me like since that I’ll be 14 in March that they would have to tell my parents I’m getting an abortion. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just sign whatever it is and they wouldn’t have to tell anybody anything?

CLINIC: Um, I do believe that you have to have parental consent if you’re that young.

CALLER: Oh. Well, is there any way not to have to tell my parents? It’s just, I can’t tell them anything.

CLINIC: I’m not real familiar with those rules and laws and stuff. You’ll have to call and ask them what they need from you. And sometimes, I think some places do it with a note.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: So, yeah, bring parent or note if they’re a minor.

CALLER: What kind of note?

CLINIC: The Feminist Women’s Health Center. I don’t know. I guess it’s just a permission thing.

CALLER: Like from my parents, or —

CLINIC: Yeah. I mean, yeah. And then you just have to be accompanied by someone 18 or older. But if you’re boyfriend’s 22, then he’s 18 or older.

CALLER: Yeah. All right.

CLINIC: You have to call these places though and find out.

CALLER: Okay. Well, could I come there for a pregnancy test just to see if I was pregnant?

CLINIC: Oh, yes. We do them for $20 here. And you don’t — you just come in.

CALLER: Well, would you guys have to tell anybody that I was there for that?

CLINIC: Oh, no. No, no, no. Ours is totally confidential.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: Regardless of age.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend — I would really feel better if he was there with me because — would that be all right?

CLINIC: Yeah. That’s fine.

CALLER: Okay. Well, he said that he was going to pay for everything. So, but we don’t, we were talking about all this, and we don’t want anyone to know about us. Would he have to sign anything?

CLINIC: Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Nope. And he can pay cash, check, credit card or whatever. It’s not — no, no, no. Ours is totally confidential.

CALLER: All right. Well, if it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes, you could, and that’s confidential also.

CALLER: Really?

CLINIC: Yeah. You wouldn’t need your parents’ permission to do that either.

CALLER: Okay. It’s just me and my boyfriend don’t want to have to go through all this again.

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: So. If I was on birth control, could he pick it up? Because I can’t drive. I don’t have a car or anything.

CLINIC: Yes, he can. The only thing is that you would have to come like after the third pack because they need you to take your blood pressure, or whatever. But, yeah, most of the time — a lot of guys get their pills for their girlfriends or wives, or whatever. It’s not really a problem.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: All right. Okay. Thanks.

CLINIC: Good luck. You’re more than welcome to come in. We close at 4:00 today. We close at 6:00 on Wednesday. We’re closed on Thursday. We’re open 8:00 to 3:00 on Friday and 9:00 to 1:00 on Saturday.
