CLINIC: A Choice for Women. How can I help you? Selina.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: Yes, we do.

CALLER: Do you know how much it cost for that?

CLINIC: Yeah. How many weeks are you?

CALLER: I’m not really sure. How do you know?

CLINIC: More or less. Well, if you tell me when was the first day of your last period, I can tell you more or less how many weeks you are now.

CALLER: Okay. Well, it was January 3rd.

CLINIC: January 3rd. According to that period, you are nine weeks pregnant more or less, okay?

CALLER: Okay. So how much would it cost then?

CLINIC: We have two prices, two kind of service. As a general patient it’s 365. Everything is included in that price. As a private, the price is 565. Everything is included.

CALLER: So what’s the difference between the two?

CLINIC: General, you spend more time here in the clinic, and that’s four hours. You are going to be with more patients, waiting room. And you’re not allowed to have any member of your family with you in the operation. Private, you are going to be in a private room. You can be with somebody in that room in the operation, and you spend less time, like two hours.

CALLER: Oh, okay.

CLINIC: It’s by appointment.

CALLER: Well, the problem is I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22.

CLINIC: No. No, no. No, we don’t. This is confidential.

CALLER: Well, my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just take care of everything, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?

CLINIC: No, you can come alone, even if you weren’t alone. Oh. But you need a taxi to drive you home because you’re not allowed to drive. You can take a taxi and nobody knows, or you can bring your boyfriend or a friend. Ask somebody to ride you home. And you don’t need permission for that here in the state of Florida.

CALLER: Oh, okay. Do you do pregnancy tests there beforehand though?

CLINIC: We do everything, yes. We start with the lab work, urine test, vital signs, hemoglobin, blood type. Then you go with a counselor. She’s going to explain everything, all the process, how to take care after. Then you go with the doctor. He’s going to do the ultra sound. At that time we know for sure how many weeks you are. And after that if everything is okay, he’s going to do the termination. And at that time you go to your private room for one hour or general (unclear) for one hour.

CALLER: If it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Yes. We give you two packs to start with.

CALLER: Would you have to tell anybody if I was on birth control?

CLINIC: I’m sorry?

CALLER: Would you have to tell anybody if I was on birth control?

CLINIC: Oh, no. No, no. We give you all the information here. The counselor is going to give you all the information.

CALLER: Okay. All right.

CLINIC: I have appointments for tomorrow, for Friday, and Saturday this week.

CALLER: What time on Saturday?

CLINIC: We start early on Saturday at 7:00.

CALLER: Okay. Well, I have to call my boyfriend to see when he can bring me.

CLINIC: Okay, no problem.

CALLER: What was your name again?

CLINIC: Rosalina.

CALLER: Okay. All right.

CLINIC: Okay. Thank you. Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.
