CLINIC: Good afternoon, Planned Parenthood.

CALLER: Hi. Do you guys do abortions there?

CLINIC: Nope.

CALLER: No? Do you know anyone that would/

CLINIC: What we do here is the pre-abortion exam that has to be done. It’s a pelvic exam. And then we’ll give you all the information to schedule your appointment for the procedure.

CALLER: Okay. Do you know if they have to tell my parents? Because they can’t find. My boyfriend’s 22, and they don’t like him because they think he’s too old for me. But if they found out anything, I would get in big trouble.

CLINIC: No, no. Everything is confidential here. What was the first day of your last period?

CALLER: It was like the first week in December.

CLINIC: Hold on one second; let me just figure that out here. Hold on.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: You said the first week in December?

CALLER: Yeah.

CLINIC: Okay. You’re starting to run out of time now a little bit before it gets more expensive. So the further along you go, the more expensive it’s going to be to have done.

CALLER: Okay. Is there like an age requirement or anything?

CLINIC: Huh?

CALLER: Is there an age requirement to have an abortion? I’ll be 14 in March.

CLINIC: I’m sorry. What was that?

CALLER: Well, do you have to be a certain age or anything to have an abortion?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: I’ll be 14 in March. Is that all right?

CLINIC: Uh-huh. You know what I’m going to say? Why don’t you call West Hartford now and see if they can get you in sooner? Because we don’t want you to go too long.

CALLER: Well, what if it ended up like I wasn’t pregnant. Do you guys do birth control there?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.

CALLER: Yeah?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: And you wouldn’t have to tell anybody about that either?

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: Is it okay if my boyfriend brings me?

CLINIC: Yes.

CALLER: Yeah?

CLINIC: Yep. So are you?

CALLER: Am I —

CLINIC: Are you pregnant?

CALLER: I think so.

CLINIC: Okay. Why don’t you start off by doing a pregnancy test. Have you done one at home?

CALLER: Yes, I did one over the weekend.

CLINIC: And?

CALLER: It said it was positive.

CLINIC: Okay. So my suggestion would be — oh gosh. I don’t want to make you wait until the 20th. I can give you the West Hartford phone number, okay? Call them and set up to have an abortion procedure done. And tell them you want the exam and everything all at once. Okay?

CALLER: What was their number?

CLINIC: Their number is 953-6201. Tell them you want everything done all at once.

CALLER: If I have more questions, can I talk to you?

CLINIC: Yeah.

CALLER: What was your name?

CLINIC: Uh-huh.
