CLINIC: Planned Parenthood. This is Christy. Can I help you?

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering if you guys do abortions there.

CLINIC: We don’t, but if you want to come in and have a pregnancy test or even just a referral, we can do that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: We can set you up. We can tell you where to go.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: Would you like to do that?

CALLER: Well, yeah.

CLINIC: When would you like to come in?

CALLER: Well, I don’t know. I’d have to call my boyfriend and see. My problem is, my friend said that since I’ll be 14 in March that you guys have to tell my parents. My boyfriend’s 22. Could he just take care of everything?

CLINIC: I think it depends on where you go. Some places require parental notification and some don’t. So when you come in, we can talk about that and find one that doesn’t.

CALLER: Well, what about like where you’re at?

CLINIC: I’m sorry?

CALLER: Well, what’s different places? Do you guys have to tell my parents?

CLINIC: We don’t do abortions here.

CALLER: Oh.

CLINIC: We’re just a family planning clinic. But we can refer you. We can tell you who around does them. And we can let you know which ones require parental notification and which ones don’t, and even call them while you’re here and set up an appointment for you.

CALLER: But if I came in for a pregnancy test there, would you have to tell my parents about it?

CLINIC: No, no. We don’t do that.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Is it all right if my boyfriend — my parents can’t stand my boyfriend, so they can’t find out at all.

CLINIC: Well, no. Of course we wouldn’t tell them anything. But your boyfriend wouldn’t be able to sign for you anywhere that of your parents because he’s not a guardian or parent for you. But would you like to come in tomorrow or do you want to call him and see?

CALLER: Yeah. I’d have to call and see when he can come in.

CLINIC: Okay. We’re here tomorrow from 10 to 5.

CALLER: I’m just worried because my last period was December 14th. Is there any way that I’m not pregnant?

CLINIC: Well, are you taking any kind of birth control?

CALLER: No.

CLINIC: Pills or using condoms?

CALLER: Uh-uh.

CLINIC: Okay. Then I would guess you probably are pregnant. But without doing a pregnancy test I wouldn’t be able to say for sure. But why don’t you call him and see if he can bring you in tomorrow, anytime between 10 and 5.

CALLER: If the pregnancy test was negative or something, could I get birth control from you guys?

CLINIC: Absolutely. We can set you up with an appointment probably next week.

CALLER: Because it’s just I don’t want to do this again.

CLINIC: No.

CALLER: You guys wouldn’t have to tell anybody that I was on birth control though, would you?

CLINIC: Nope. We are completely confidential here, and we would never call your parents for any reason.

CALLER: And nobody would have to say anything about my boyfriend or anything?

CLINIC: No. No, we would have no contact with your parents whatsoever.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay? So why don’t you call him and see if he can bring you in tomorrow. And then you can call me back, and I’ll pencil you in for an appointment.

CALLER: Okay. So you’re sure you wouldn’t have to tell anybody at all?

CLINIC: I swear to God. I promise. It will be completely confidential.

CALLER: What was your name again?

CLINIC: Christy.

CALLER: All right.

CLINIC: So why don’t you call me back in a little while after you talk to him, and we’ll set you up for an appointment tomorrow?

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: All right. We’re open until 5 today. So if you don’t call me back by 5 today, you can call tomorrow after 10.

CALLER: Okay.

CLINIC: Okay?

CALLER: Thanks.

CLINIC: Okay. Bye bye.

CALLER: Bye.
